    Advice Please,

I would like to buy a cheap bike , mainly for cycling around the village and hopefully shed a few pounds.

Have looked at a couple in Halfords.

    Any thoughts please

    Thank you:)

    Hi Delthedriver,

I wouldnt recommend halfords, extremely overpriced in my opinion. Also some of there cheaper bikes can be of very poor quality.

I fix up second hand bikes myself and there a much better bet to go for in my opinion, as for the same money as a cheap new bike you can get a very good quality brand name bike in excellent condition

Check out DoneDeal.ie - Sport and Leisure - Cycling. Good selection of very good, competitively priced s/h hybrid bikes available at the moment. For short cycles, such as you describe, it would be a better option in my opinion.

The Carrera Subway is good value (half price) at the moment for €250 in Halfords. It's worth considering but avoid the likes of Apollo, Trax and such as they're just cheap crap.

+1 That's a decent bike for the money.

That Carrera looks very good for the money. Agree with cdaly, stay away from trax and apollo, very cheap components, particular the gear mechanisms on cheap Apollos (notice the comments on the gears here http://reviews.halfords.com/4028/920280/reviews.htm )
