Me head is done in with trying to pick what tyres to go for all weather, winter, summer. There is also so many brands to pick from totally confused.com

I'm just want grip in the wet, not bothered about noise. I just want the car to feel safer in the wet.

Its only a 5 door punto, the size is 165 60 14 and I'm willing to spend around 60 quid a tyre.

Please someone in the know point me in the right direction.

A little above 250 for 4 delivered with good rating for grip in the wet. Fuel economy on them is an E rating but I notice most of the economy ratings are poor for the tyres with decent grip. I value the grip on the roads better than fuel costs as I value my life more. You need to factor in costs of someone fitting and balancing the tyres for you. Down my way there's a fitter that will do it for €2.50 a tyre for fitting with same again for balancing. So €5 per tyre is €20 for me to do 4 which would be in region of €270

He does charge 2.50 for cost of storing your old tyre but I declined that option as I had a use for them.

There are cheaper tyres but I highly recommend getting a premium brand tyre. Don't get cheap rubbish. If money is tight, go for part worn premium brand for cheaper. Just make sure to get the same type on each axle, ideally all 4 would be same tho. At least have 2 of the same on the front and 2 of the same on the rear.

Timefora J... Don't beat yourself up over it .... summer tyres let's face it in reality little difference in temp here between summer & winter maybe 10-12c on average on continent difference could be +30 in summer & -10 (or more) in winter

I have brand new wheels(original Fiat ones) with brand new tires Michelin Alpin A3, 14 inch, I did removed from adverts, due lack of interest from people, but the price unfortunately would be double.

Yawns, Many thanks for searching around, those look like they will fit the bill perfectly, and bang on budget.

I also prefer grip over mpg, there has been moments just going round roundabouts the punto felt like it was losing grip and I drive like granny :) so hopefully investing abit more will pay off. . I did have 30 quid in mind for balancing tracking.

Now I'm usually the first to buy online but would prefer to get these from a bricks and mortar garage as they will do the whole lot there and maybe just maybe might get a little discount.

So I get this right in me head, aslong as the tyre is rated for wet grip I should be ok with all weather tyre ?

Your very welcome. You might be better off getting them in a bricks and mortar shop as sometimes it can be a pain trying to find a fitters to do tyres you bought online, even tho you'll be paying them for the service. Some just won't do it unless you buy from them. At least you have a guideline price now to bargain away with.

I found quite a few fitters who were able to drop their prices to try match the online price or bring it near the online price which is good. If the deal is same or near enough to the online price I usually take it from the local guy and give good word of mouth to family n friends etc. Much like the place I did last time near me in Athy. €2.50 a corner is good value. €10 to fit 4 wheels and €10 to balance which I always get done anyway. Some people don't tho.

If you go with getting them online will you please let us know how much you got charged for fitting and balancing. I heard some places trying to charge €10 a tyre.

Yeah it's €2.50 a tyre to fit. He's out by Athy, Kildare.

Doesn't seem to have a website from a quick google search but here's his yellow pages number with a map location.

The €2.50 is just to fit tho. If you're fitting and balancing it's €5 per corner. If you are leaving the old tyre with him it's another €2.50 but I knew a place that were looking for old tyres for a project so I dropped them off there instead.

I used Walkinstown Tyre Centre for my Camskill tyres just before Christmas as they were the cheapest I could find on my side of Dublin.

€12 per tyre to fit, balance, and dispose of the old ones.

What you want is a good summer tyre, all weather is a buzz word and means next to nothing tbh.

Winters aren't needed in out temperate climate apart from 1-2 days a year if even that, what you want is a good brand summer tyre that can filter water through the threads quickly.
