Does anyone know would u get bargains at these auctions

I got a KA 2000 up there 10 years ago- it was 50% of the rrp and turned out to be a great car

The only way to find out is to go up and see, hopefully you can do as well- auction prices vary a lot - simply put if somebody else wants the car the price can really creep up, but for something like a Ka which isn't on the top of most people lists you could do very well.

Generally if the car hasn't reached reserve by the final bid and is 'sold provisionally' you are onto a good thing, but if the auctioneer states that its 'selling' then that means its gone over the reserve - or higher than the seller thinks its worth

Thats a good sign, its not meeting the reserve so you'd expect after a month that the reserve might fall considerably

I know they about 6500 so if I get it for about 4500-5000 I be happy

Don't forget to factor in the auction fees when summing up what it's going to cost you on top of your bid. I'm also wary about why the car is being auctioned in the first place, is it a trader trying to offload a problem car.

I will have a look at that on Tuesday before I head up to auction

I know they would be a few extra charges to from the auction house so I will have to add up everything to see the differents

Don't buy at Wilson's. you will end up with a heap. Travel a bit further to Merlin car auctions. You will have some comeback with Merlin

What makes you think there would be a comeback with Merlin ? Auction = sold as seen, unless it specifies as sold with test drive.

Auction fees usually 5%+vat+indemnity, on a 4000 euro bid the price you would pay would be approx 4426 (assuming a 180 euro indemnity, which would be typical).

You'd really want to be finished at close to 4 grand to make it worthwhile against the identical one posted for sale though.

If you buy car that has a major mechanical fault and its not declared Merlin will cancel sale. If that happens you with a Wilson's car it's good luck to you your problem. When entering a car into Merlin car auctions it's on entry form to declare if car has any major faults.

I'd be going with Colms one any day of the year, even if the one at auction came cheaper. Warranty, serviced I presume and most importantly, comeback. I have bought a few vehicles(vans) at Wilsons, some hits, a miss or two, but I've never, ever come away thinking that I got a great bargain after fees etc. Them fees add up very quickly, and if you are not saving a grand or two, why take the risk???

There is a thread here about a dodgy bmw that has been up three times. Old owners pointing out it has less mileage now than when they had it :rolleyes:

I notified Donedeal about it and, when I last looked, it was still up.

Another case of not our problem maybe?

I noticed a few on that site myself. My sister got caught on it from a seller. She went by her self and told lots of stuff from the seller about the car. Didn't take for a test drive and bought it. The next week the timing belt went. No come back.

Hardly donedeals fault.

If you bought the car in wilsons and the engine blew up the next day you'd be similarly high and dry.

Its not their fault, but once they are made aware of it, do they not have any responsibility to take it down?

I have the emails back from them that they want proof.

I put them onto the thread this afternoon. One of the previous owners has pointed out it has less mileage than when he had it. If several pages of posts, plus previous owners pointing out the problems is not enough, so be it.

I might throw it into the legal discussions forum about this issue.

As they now know its not as it appears, could they, in theory, be held partly accountable in a court case? The fact they knew or suspected it was clocked?

Rental car probably. I rent a lot, an tbh would think twice before ever buying one. Had a micra a few weeks back - felt like the clutch was falling out of it. Had a Clio the time before that and had to take it back it drove so badly - and again, clutch problems. I think Ive only ever had 2 or 3 cars over the last 2 years where they felt "perfect". They really get some abuse ..... drive it like you dont own it and all that! Would at the very least want a mechanic to look it over first.

The ka I was looking at went for 4700. With the other prices on top it would have being over my limit. But they were some bargains there

There were no bargains there that I could see. All the ex fleet stuff needed plenty of money spent on it before it could be retailed yet still fetched close to retail prices. Madness really but that's the way auctions are at the moment.

Bolands in Carlow had those 2010 for €4995 last september. Would be off your trolley to bother with that auction at those prices, nuts.

Yeah it was m8. I went to 4k. Wouldn't pay more then that when I could get one in Carlow for around 4700 with a warranty

That in Bolands? I'd buy there instead, decent crowd to deal with in my experience.

Two 10 reg Ka's on Merlin stock list at the moment, not sure if for sale tonight. Look like ex fleet but that's just an educated guess.

Merlin sold three of these in the last 3 months, two in October (4750 each) and one in November (4900), all three ex fleet, all prices plus fees.

I cannot understand why people would pay retail prices at auction. The same cars were €4995 in Bolands last september. I reckon they are all from a 2010 ex rental fleet. Do people do any research beforehand? And I don't mean comparing prices to Ford garages.

Joe Public is of the common belief that cars are selling for half nothing at auctions and is full of bargins. So what you get is the place full of numpties caught up in the moment, bidding against each other for that bargin.

These two went through Merlin tonight, both were ex car hire. Red one sold provisionally at 4700, blue one bid to 4500 but not sold.

4700 + fees = 5169.

WILSONS AUCTIONS

On 26/01/2013 I bought two lots. (Lot number 1221 witch in the catalogue is a red Pel Job ED 750 Hi Tip Dumper and the second one is lot number 1218 description of the product is a yanmar B15 digger c/w 3 Buckets.

I attach a copy of my receipt for your information. I am writing to you because
The product Red Dumper Lot 1221 does not exist you had a similar product lot 1220 witch is an orange dumper and is faulty
The product does not do what it is supposed to do. And is not the same colour as photo.
Lot number 1218 is described as Yanmar B15 Excavator c/w 3 buckets
The lot 1218 has only got 2 buckets
The products is not as described in the catalogue

On 26/01/2013 I spoke to Dean but He tells me it is a catalogue error and there is Nothing he can do about it. If I don’t pay in full for the products I will lose my €1000 deposit. I have heard from Dean He has phoned me twice and he is telling me he is having trouble getting a bucket for the digger and asked me could I hold off on-till Monday. I am not happy about this, between buying lot number 1221 and being told it is a catalogue error what I really both lot number 1220 And now it will be Monday before I can collect the digger.it is now Monday late afternoon 8 days after the auction and still no Bucket.
I am not happy the way I have being treated and I would like my deposit back.
