Your chances of finding any laptop with windows 7 are very slim. You'll most likely just have to get one with 8 and then buy windows 7 or try and make windows 8 more like 7, which is possible.

matches what you're looking for and Asus are one of the most reliable brands you can get. Just under 600 euro, it's really good value

I'd say the main reason it's quite cheap is cause of the processor, from what I've heard Pentium is not meant to be that great but I'd say it all depends on what you want to use it for.

If it's basic stuff like web browsing, Microsoft office, music, YouTube videos and that kind of thing then I think it should do the job just fine.

Just about your hdd don't get 1tb as you don't need it and the amount of people who call to me with hdd failure where they have lost years of personal data is unreal. Large hdd equals keeping everything on laptop never backing up and eventually losing everything happened me years ago with ex hdd lost five years of pictures etc. have a nas now never looked back and peace of mind

I don't think the size of the hard drive will really affect that. Most people wouldn't even fill up a 250 or 320 GB drive. People will either back stuff up or they won't.

Read this the other day. And I agree with it makers are making crap drives so they don't last and laptop maker want to keep price low but spec high so they buy cheapest hdd with highest capacity.

Op say it was for surfing so why would they need 1tb better off asking shop for a smaller hdd laptop maybe a ssd

Hadn't come across that before! You make a fair point then. Although they do still say you'll get a few years from them at the least so I don't think I'd be too fussed having to replace one after that length of time.

I think Google drive is probably the best backup option. I use it for my college work and it's very handy.

The drive I lost all my stuff on wasn't even a year old I got it replaced but Iomega didn't care about my lost data

Replacing the drive isn't the issue here it's the loss of all that data ie picture tax accounts home movies emails the list goes on. Also replacing a drive is expensive even if you don't lose data

I'm a firm believer that these large hdd in laptop are not needed and consumers have this idea in there head that I have to get the biggest hdd available even though 300gb would be more than big enough for most users.

I think the manufactors of laptops are like the car battery makers you buy a new battery cheap or a new car and 13 months later the battery breaks they are able to make them this way. You might get longer but as long as the design lasts longer than 12 months they don't care.

I can bet you any amount of money that the 1tb drive the op wants will fail before he even has it 1/3 full. After all it is just a spinning disk inside a metal case inside a laptop that will be moved banged and dropped and this is while its on god knows what will happen to it while its off.

I agree with what your saying, some people I know are exactly like that. Turns out I'm getting a new laptop and it has a 1TB hdd, but I couldn't get it with a smaller one. I'll be interested to see now how long it lasts me after everything you said/shown me.

I think it's fair to say I'll definitely be doing more frequent backups with it!

An SSD is short for Solid State Drive, basically it's a storage device like a HDD only it has no moving parts inside of it. Much faster but a good bit more expensive too (becoming cheaper though).

HDDs are risky because small knocks/falls can damage the moving parts in a HDD so that's probably the biggest advantage of a solid state.

If you're prepared to spend the money then they're definitely the way to go

Darren cover the rest a nas is a network attached hdd mine is also a raid ie two hdd but you only see one it store all data on the double so if one hdd fails you don't lose any of your stuff you remove the damaged hdd and insert new hdd and it copies every over very secure and offers piece of mind
