Hi lads, a mate of mine recently packed in his shooting and gave me a bunch of mixed cartridges. About 60 or so shells, mostly common enough stuff but there was a handful of 00 buck(look out charlie :-D) and a few lyalvale express super game 42g #1's. I never heard of them before but I tried a couple of them this evening on some high duck and JESUS they were brilliant! Just wondering if anyone has ever tried them and if so, how did ye find them and more importantly, where can they be got? I'd love a couple of boxes as they flattened two duck in two shots at ranges I never would try with my usual remmy sureshots! Fair wallop out of them though, but it's worth it for the performance. Any input would be great.
    Thanks all.

Hi loneranger I use to use express cartridges I would say the best I fired but I too cannot find anyone that stocks them be interesting to hear from other guys on here fair play to you for getting the two ducks

Yup snipe, they are the ones. A mate of mine lives in kilkenny so I'll ask him to check for me. Cheers for the tip;). Widgeon,I'm with you there, these are the most powerful 2 3/4 inch cartridges I've used. I've used magnums that wouldn't knock duck from the same distance. If I find any I'll let you know straight away.
    Happy hunting lads.

Used them nearly exclusively for the last 8 or so years. They went off the market for a short while but came back.

I preferred the 36g 5s as an all round cartridge. Unbelievable stopping power, and terrific range regardless of choke you use.

As above Jim McBride does an excellent range of them. One of, if not the biggest, selection. Ring him on the number above. He definitely has Express, but if you are looking for a specific one as outlined above i'd ring him to ask.

Bought a box of 7.5 28gs recently coz was stuck. High velocity & €6.50.
Been dropping pheasants, woodcock, crow, pigeon with em. Serious yokes.
The 28g load is a bit light & not really intended for larger game but when out for woodcock I've come across pheasants & bang - dead. Well impressed with em & much cheaper than my usual Remington's.

I was delighted to see that you were using those loads in one of your videos. 28g 7.5 has always been the traditional english game load provided your not shooting at a peg.

I have shot pheasants with 26.5g 16 bore loads, my personal favourite are 30g express 6's in 16 bore

Go way - learn something new every day. Well there's plenty of knocking power in em. I felt could be more killin in em but that could be the shots presented too. Either way when I point & pull I just find they hit target. V happy with em & cheap to go with it!

I was looking for them cartridges a while ago, couldnt find them anywhere and got in touch with lyalvale.
They told me that the only importer of them cartridges in Ireland is Cleere's angling centre :16B Clane Business Park, Clane, Co. Kildare.

Also the guy from lyalvale told me to get in contact with Cleere's if i needed any particular load they would be able to get them for me. Hope this helps

Are they the only importers direct from Lylevale?

While they have been scarce i've never really had any trouble getting them from any one of a number of dealers i frequent. Some, more than others, would carry a larger stock of them, but i have never found myself not being able to get them.

That's what exactly i've been told in email from Lylevale.

I only ask because of a similar experience in relation to a rifle. I rang up a while ago to the main distributor/importer of a certain brand of rifle asking about a particular model. They did not know what i was talking about at first then said it would be 6 months before they start to import them.

I had already bought one from another dealer so was surprised. Simply means the dealer bought from a secondary source outside the main importers.

Same applies to the cartridges i presume.

Pat has slabs of 7.5 28g Lyvale express cartridges for €55, great cartridge and great value.
Possibly one of the best cartridges I have ever used.
