LNB FUBAR?

Started getting an intermittent no signal 25 on some channels like the Irish ones and Alibi HD and kids ones like cbbies, all the nick jnr channels.

For hours everything would be fine then for hours no signal on those channels.

Did all the usual, reboot, change the cables around.

I went into the installer menu and turned 22KHz command off, that's when the affected channels came back and the working ones turned to no signal. Is this an indication of a faulty LNB? It's a quad one us there any point in trying the two spare ones?

Just check that there isn't a cordless phone close to a cable or your receiver and interefering with the signal.

You might also find that it's the connection at the LNB. Remove the F connector and if there's any sign of corrosion, strip back the cable and remake the joint. You should be abe to use the same F connector as the corrosion will be on the cable.

Of course you can use another port on the LNB. I would say it's unlikely that you will have to replace it.

Would seem like all low band channels. What make & model Sky box do you have?

There is a cordless phone in the same room but box and phone have been in the
same place for years. I did disconnect the phone just to make sure, made no difference.

It's the Amstrad sky HD 500gb one.

I had turned off 22KHz command for an hour or so to watch one of the affected channels and then turned it back on a few hours a go and it's been fine so far.

Will have to see if it lasts.

Haha. Just jinxed myself. It's back...

Working now for the last half hour or so...

The 22 kHz signal is to switch the lnb to high band & should only be present when you select a high band channel. Failing receiver power supplies can oscillate & cause problems here. Not sure if there's any particular problem with the Amstrad box.

I'm just hoping its not the box as I have tones if stuff recorded yet to be watched.

Since I last edited my post the signal on the affected channels has remained on.

I wonder now if the dish has moved slightly and the signal comes and goes as the satellite moves.

Now getting picture breakup but not no signal on sky 1hd and discovery HD.

Looking at the signal it's signal quality is around 90% but fluctuating. And strength is at 70% for 1 and 50%-60% for 2 also fluctuating.

When the picture is breaking up signal quality on 2 goes to 0.

Did you check the connections on the LNB?

At the dish? Not yet. Waiting on my father in law, as I don't have a long enough ladder.

Another thing is that input 2 will go to 0 when I get the no signal. Reboot the box and this time is signal 1.

    It's seems to be fixed.

Got up to the dish yesterday afternoon to have a look.

Dish was solid no movement what so ever.

Cables into LNB were solid and rust free, even had grease on them still.

As I was investigating the cables into the LNB my father in law was looking at the signal strength and quality on via the box.

He said the signal would go up from the 50% it was to around 80%

I decided to check and see what would happen if I altered the LNB skew.

Undid the screw holding the LNB and turned it slightly anti clockwise made it worse.

In the end turned it a fraction of a turn clockwise and its been working since.
