traveling to vegas from dublin via heathrow, the layover in heathrow is 15 hours, can you leave the airport during that time? even though your bags have been checked through ?
if not what hotels can you stay at within the airport?
obviosly you would have to go through customs etc to get to the hotel but what about the checked bags?
    thanks

    15 hours!!!!

Did you book this separately yourself or on purpose in some kind of money saving scheme? That's a mental amount of time to spend in somewhere as dull as LHR.

If it was me I think I'd be heading into London to make a night of it in the West End.

Of course you are allowed to leave Heathrow. Why wouldn't you be? If you were an international transit passenger who did not have the necessary visa to enter the UK, then yeah, you'd have to stay in Heathrows international transit lounge while you were in en route to your final destination. But an Irish person (or most EU citizens really) can come and go as they please.

i was thinking because the bags would of been checked, i would see my luggage in Dublin, then not again till USA, i was thinking maybe it was a security issue.

If for some reason, you do not make it onto the flight that your bags have been checked on to, then yes, that would be a security issue. But your leaving the airport in between flights is not. Go into London, have a good time or go to a hotel and sleep, just make sure that you are back in Heathrow in time for your flight.

PS I really, really hope that you are making some absolutely crazy, INSANE savings by taking a trip with a 15 hour layover, in LONDON of all places. Don't let the upfront savings on flights blind you to the cost of what you'll cough up on hotels, meals, drinks, transport, etc etc when you are spending 15 hours in one of the worlds most expensive cities/airports

And that's not even factoring in the physical cost of how bloody knackered you'll be when you actually GET to Las Vegas, after having been on the road for so long. Add in the 7 hour times difference, and the unavoidable jet lag, and odds are that you'll be absolutely exhausted for your first couple of days in Sin City. Factor all that into who/when/how you choose to fly there. It can be a very false economy if you don't.

I had an 11 hour stopover in Heathrow last year after a 14 hour flight. I booked the Radisson, got room service, had a bath, had a snooze and generally luxuriated - it was great!

Yes you can leave the airport, and if it's overnight, there is no reason you can't go to a hotel. There are tons around the area, and you can snag discounted rooms quite often via hotwire/priceline etc.

check what terminal u are arriving at.

check what terminal u will be leaving from.

loads of hotels near the airport. if u want to venture into london, u can leave your bags at heathrow, 8.50 for 24hours per bag.

i had to stay overnight there over the xmas, at terminal 4, there is a jurys hotel about 10mins walk away or taxi 8pounds, was expensive enough about 60pounds with breakfast

We book the ibis hotel all the time grand and cheap and only 10mins from airport, rooms very basic but do the job, when booking add in the breakfast option it's buffet style and much cheaper than eaten in the airport.

As prouddub says you would have to be making hundreds of euro of a saving for that layover to make any sense at all. You're basically wasting a days holiday by spending it there. Have you tried skyscanner for other fare options.
I can think of no worse way of starting a holiday than what you're suggesting.
