Is there such a thing for people working in private security, where the environment they work is deemed more dangerous than say a shop? I know certain site's used to have site premiums.

    Any help appreciated :)

I maybe wrong....but can a company knowingly put you in a place or job that requires them to pay you to absorb them of duty to protect you...?

well its a security job so some risk implied, but im wondering is there such a thing as a high risk site? e.g. drug rehab centre, psychiatric hospital?

Well if they didn't, we have no guards, psychiatric nurses, people driving wagons with dangerous goods, roadworks ... etc.

I'm sure these types of jobs have controls in place to limit danger....Gardai have stab vests and battons, dangerous goods usually have extremely strong containers, R oadworks have traffic safety measures and high-viz clothing psychiatric nurses generally work in pairs and sedate dangerous inmates or restrain them ..

There were site allowances given during the good times.

I know of staff who were put on €1 an hour extra because they were to be 'the best' - and basically the employer felt that they had to pay a premium in order to keep the staff.

Again, back in the good times '03-'08 some staff were given a premium to work on sites that no one else would work on.

Now though, this situation is rare. With the abolishment of the JLC agreement, the basic rate an employer needs to pay is €8.65 an hour. A security guard starting in the industry getting €10.01 or €10.75 is now considered well paid.

I'd be surprised if there still exists 'danger money', as an employer and client are obliged to put the health and safety of staff to the forefront. In years gone by, a staff's well being could be bought off to an extent.
