Let me know if this isn't the right place to ask this..

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and use the default email client version 4.0 (not GMail) to access POP3 mail on my domain via O2 in Ireland. I am currently in France, bought an Orange SIM with 10 euro of call credit and 5 euro for 100 MB Internet access over 7 days.
No problem at first while browsing, call credit was untouched.
Then one day I looked at mail using the default email app and next thing I knew the credit was gone. I checked online using orange.fr , looked at my usage log and found the entire amount was that email session described as "Multimedia access".
So : how do I prevent that app from using MMS so it only uses internet access?

I asked orange.fr for support but just got a routine answer asking me to buy more internet time, which was not what I asked and is no help because the problem is the email client using an expensive multimedia route rather than the cheaper internet.
