    Hi guys and girls,

can you please let me know if im right in thinking the following in what guns play what role in airsoft.

    Pistol - backup
    AEG - Main Gun
Snipers rifle - long, slow and cumbersome. Main gun for "real snipers"
Shotgun - Backup but pistol used more so due to size and weight?
    SMG - optinal main gun

just looking for clarification on each guns role.
I know that its possible to use any of the above as a main but the generally what i can make out is the above.

SMG - Main gun or back up for sniper especially the compact ones (MP5K OR MP7A1)

Pistol-Main gun awesomeness in a "I'm that bloke out of Hard Boiled" style. Real men carry at least 3 at all times

AEG- Main gun for when your sick of people cowardly picking you off at range because they lack the cohones to go mono e mono like a true pistoleer

SMG- Somewhere between pistol and AEG

Shotguns- tri bb short range area clearer that sadly suffers the same failings as Pistol

Sniper- No idea whatsoever. Have been shot several times when there appeared to be no one anywhere near me. Assumed this was sniper/hailstones. Call hit while shaking head in puzzlement at the unfairness of it all while plotting next "this is a job for my pistols" scenario

I'm in total agreement and will add, a GBB MP7 is the best solution for those "sh1t hit the fan" moments ;)

Also, you can never have too many pistols :D

Personally I use a triple shot shotgun as my backup over a pistol. I have it slung over my back so I can pull it faster than I can unzip and draw a pistol. I don't have to worry about gas or how cold it is, and there is no worry about mags falling out when running around.

These are all valid points, however:

My point is, it's a personal choice on which type of RIF you wish to use as your main or backup and there are always sites + game types, that require the use of all of the above and things that go boom of course ;)

I don't think you can really pigeonhole gun types like that. Some people use their pistols as a lot more than a backup, some use SMG's as sidearms, and some use shotguns as primaries. It's down to your playing style, really.
There's a few exceptions, in that no sane person will ever use a support gun as a sidearm etc. There's also a few things that people do which make little sense ("snipers" carrying M4's/MP5's as sidearms is utterly ridiculous and counter-intuitive to me), but it's not to say that's their class.

There's a few missing from that list, too. Support guns, grenade launchers, machine pistols etc.

I've seen a guy going into regular skirmishes with just six pistols. I've played against a guy who walked into the game with just his bolty and a spare mag in his pocket (and destroyed everyone). I've even had the great pleasure of playing aside the Shotgun Twins.
Personally, I've used a grenade launcher as a sidearm at one stage, and I've even used an M249 with lo-caps instead of the box mag (who knows what classification that would have filled).

Some really interesting stories there dex. makes me think a bit more of this classification idea.

    Pistol primary
    Pistol secondary
    Pistol tertiary
And sure why not an Aeg for those rainy days.
    Thats my 3 cents.
