    Hi all,

Looking for your advice for a new build:

    1. What is your budget? 570 Max.

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? Some basic photo editing, web design and entertainment - movies and music.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? No.

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No.

    5. Do you need a monitor? No.

5a. If yes, what size do you need. [19'/20'/22'/24'/etc.] N/A.

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? [1920x1080/1440x900/etc.] I'll just be hooking it up to a Samsung TV; 42".

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard/Mouse/Wireless Card/Card Reader/Speakers/etc.] I need a keyboard, mouse and WIFI.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? No.

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card/Laser] Any.

    9. When are you purchasing? In the next 2 weeks.

    Thanks everyone.

I think something like this would do you just fine for about €530 delivered. I don't think you need a huge amount of processing power, Intel HD4000 graphics would be just fine, I have included a 128GB combined with a 2TB media drive although a 64GB SSD might be big enough since you aren't a gamer or if you wouldn't use a huge amount of programs.

    Item|Price
    BitFenix Merc Beta|€33.99
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€46.42
    ASRock H77 Pro4-M, Sockel 1155, mATX|€72.44
    Intel Core i3-3220 Box, LGA1155|€104.94
    8GB G.Skill RipJaws-X PC3-12800U CL10|€37.73
    Crucial M4 128GB SSD 6,4cm (2,5")|€96.59
WD Caviar Green 2TB SATA 6Gb/s|€87.57
    Samsung SH-224BB bare schwarz|€17.14
LogiLink Wireless LAN 300 Mbps PCI Karte 802.11n 2T2R|€14.64
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€530.45

Was just having a look on the Dell website.

Would this not be a better option?

    http://www.dell.com/ie/p/inspiron-660s/pd?oc=d0066s07&model_id=inspiron-660s

Or are the quality of the components not as good?

    Thanks

Since it includes Windows that is a pretty decent price in fairness, and it will certainly do everything you need. However it would be unlikely to prove very upgradable in the future, especially as it comes in such a slim case. The core components (Case/PSU/MB) would probably be of a little lower quality, and my build had an SSD and bigger HDD. But the Dell does include windows and has a better, quad-core processor.

If upgrading is not a concern for you then honestly I'd be very hard pressed to price match it part for part, especially if a copy of windows is required. The cost benefits of a custom build do diminish quite a bit the further you go under a €500 budget or thereabouts.

    Thanks for that.

I think maybe the custom build would be a better solution long term in terms of upgrading as you mentioned.

Not a major issues but the i3 3220 has hd 2500 not hd4000 for that you'd need i3 3225. Both would be ok for multumedia but the hd4000 does have a but more oomph graphics wise
