Edinburgh Hotel Tip

We could probably use a sticky with travel advice for all the away games but with Leinster, Munster and Ireland all heading to Murrayfield in the near future I thought I'd add a tip (mods delete/lock if you think inappropriate).

Just back from Hogmanay and we had struggled to find a hotel. Ended up in the Tune Hotel opposite Haymarket Station. Only opened 21st December so not widely known about. It's not luxury but absolutely fine, and clean, and perfect for a trip like we've had or rugby weekends. Think of it as a Ryanair style hotel, you get your room and ensuite, pretty much everything else is extra. Most extras you really don't need, and the prices are so competitive (we paid half what the other hotels in the area were charging). Hotel is at Haymarket so half way in from Murrayfield and 10 mins walk from Princes Street.

Yeah can remember having trouble finding something in Embra before too. Cardiff too. Don't think they're really equipped to deal with a large influx from outside the country.

I always stay in the Thistle Hotel down at the bottom of Princes Street in the John Lewis copmplex. It's pretty good.

We normally stay in the Oldtown (Radisson/George) but the rates were astronomical for Hogmanay. When I arrived at the Tune, my first impression was "perfect for a rugby weekend". It's open less than a fortnight which is why I said I'd share.

We stayed in a holiday inn near the water and the royal yacht. About 2 miles from town . Good value iirc.

Thistle is great for town, miles away from the stadium though as well as Radisson on the water.
There are two Travelodge's that are off the beaten track, one is a 15 minute walk to Murrayfield (by Dean Gallery) the other is off Dean Bridge which is a 20min walk. Well worth checking out as they tend to be forgotten about.

Handy living here, stroll down, stumble home ;-)
