Hey OP blood tests are the most accurate of the tests that they do.

I found out i was allergic to nuts when an ex nearly killed me with a cake so (being a guy) 6 months later i go to the docs for testing.

They ran all the usual crap and then done the prick test where they prick your skin in several places along the arm and then put a different solution over each point. Then they wait to see if there is a reaction.

I tested positive for grass pollen, duck, cats, dogs, dust, pretty much everything but not nuts.

He says odd but that the blood test would be more accurate so got that done and boom

there is where the nut allergy showed up and not just a "oh yeah you're allergic" it was more of a "holy **** you are really REALLY allergic to nuts". Guess the times i had minor and major attacks in the past reduced my tolerence (nut allergies get worse the more they happen unlike some other allergies so whereas before it would take me eating a cake with nuts before i got sick these days the smell can mean a day or 2 off work)

I'm actually allergic to all of the above with pollen being the least severe.

what about hard work?

ummm as for costs not sure, it was a fair few years since i got it done but iirc it was just a local docs that done it so i'm gonna say 50ish quid

I don't think they are very accurate.

Depends whose doing the testing though. There's a lot of quacks with a host of different tests for food sensitivities, some of which I think even use blood samples.

To test for an actual allergic reaction, I'm not sure can this be tested in the blood without you having eaten the thing you are allergic to.

They've gone up since. Cheapest I can find in Dublin is €135.00

Had to get a load of allergy tests a few years ago, including battery tests where they put little metal discs on your back with things you might be allergic to and leave it on for 48 hours. I was so allergic to some of the stuff they had to take it off after a half an hour.

I also had the prick test done where they prick a few lines on your arm and drop a solution of allergens onto each one and a hive will come up if you are allergic.

I had to see a specialist for mine because my allergies were so bad it cost about 800 euro.

Turns out I am allergic to Colophony (it's in almost everything) Salmon, Balsam of Peru, Fragrances and dogs (even though I have a dog and never had a reaction to him thankfully)

Blood tests and prick tests for allergies are fine, but they won't tell you what foods/substances you are intolerant to.

For example, caffeine makes me feel sick if I consume anything more than small amounts (I can't drink coffee). But I'm not allergic to caffeine though.
