Is your laptop plugged in to power?

Some brands of laptop won't give a USB device too much power (ie enough for the iPad to charge) unless it's connected to a power source.

Yeah it is plugged in. It is to do with the different voltage?

The ipad WILL charge from the USB port on your Mac or PC but it must be in 'sleep mode' otherwise it demands too much current! The iPad needs 2.1 amps to charge and the USB port on *most* devices doesn't supply that kind of juice. I think the USB spec standard is 500mA. But it will charge SLOWLY.;)

Nothing to do with voltage I'd say, more likely your USB port isn't putting out enough power.

It's nothing to do with US vs. Europe voltages, all USB ports are the same (5V) but your laptop may not be able to pump enough amps to satisfy the iPad. Are there multiple USB ports on the laptop? Try them all.

Gave tried the other port on the laptop and iPad is sleeping. When I move the USB port it flashes up 89% charged in green but then top corner still says not charging.

Got it sorted via standard iPhone plug. Thanks

    Hi caramay

Your iPad may be charging now with your iPhone charger but it is only getting less than half the amps it needs. It states on my iPad charger it outputs 2.5a while my iPhone says 1a so by this reasoning it will take 2.5 times longer to charge your iPad using your iPhone charger. It may also harm your battery and shorten its life.
Best thing to do is to buy the adaptor you need off eBay if you look at your iPad charger you'll see the US two pin part is removable and you can replace this with your newly purchased 3 pin plug or get a US to UK adaptor

I am using the cable I received with the iPad and plugging it into the iPhone plug.

Which isn't giving it enough of a amp output

How long does it take to charge from 1% to 100%

Use the charger that came with it either buy the correct three pin attactment or get a us to uk adaptor

As for me, I will try it again. and if it still doesn't work, I wil try it when laptop is power on again. If that still doesn't work, I will try with another laptop. to see if it has something to do with the laptop. To figure out why is really some tech problems, but we have post our problems here for help, that's great.
