there are loads of downloadable patterns online, or just start drawing shapes and ideas down a design will find its way:) you can use carbon paper or simply cover the back of the print out in dark pencil....2b etc picture side up using a ball point pen trace the image when you lift the page the design will have transfered:)

you sound like you know more than i, and im not great with i.t. I have tried mosaic web sites but nothing with a downloadable pattern.. i will try again and see if i can find patterns. the ones shown previous to me were for the likes of michael angelo so a basic star pattern would help! thanks for the imput. it helps (before i destroy my nest of tables)

Measure your table and measure your tile (with a little bit of allowance for grout). Work out how many tiles across you will fit, if the number isn't exact either leave a tiny gap round the edge, or use a part tile to make it fit, but don't put part tiles on the edges.

When you have worked out the size in tiles, use graph paper and colour in squares to match the size, and create a pattern. Start with an outer square then work inside it.

Once you have a pattern, work out how many of each colour you need, then arrange the tiles without grout on a board till you are satisfied with the pattern, and that they will fit, then transfer them to the table top. You will not need to draw more than the outer frame on the table.
