I'm going on a J1 this summer to New York. I wanted to find out what are the best websites for finding accommodation? or is it better to get accommodation when I over there? Any other info would be great as well. Cheers

The story with most people I've heard going over is they stay in a cheap hostel the first few nights, then find their own place to stay after a bit of looking.

You can do your own research in the meantime all the same though and maybe even arrange something before you head out, just to have one less thing to be thinking about.

Obviously Craigslist is up there with websites for housing. http://www.sublet.com/ is another good site, as is http://www.rapidnyc.com/ which caters specifically for NYC and some areas outside it.
