Apple don't allow backward syncing "iPhone to computer" only forward "computer to iPhone". There's loads of free programs that let you do this however. Just google "iPhone to computer transfer" and download one of the programs and you'll be able to get the stuff off your iPhone to your laptop.

Did you buy these apps? You can sign into your apple id on your laptop and then you can "transfer purchases". Don't know if it will work in your case.

Yes it's typical Apple being difficult b*stards, they make things harder then it should be. It's to prevent say me going to a friends house and syncing my iPhone with his laptop, getting all his music, then bringing it home and putting it on my laptop. You'd only have to pay for the music once, if you get me.
