What to spend 6k on

Yes, another what to buy thread.

Scouting through cars on Done Deal it's really hard to make up my mind on what to get. There is a limited budget of 6k as I'm a mere student/slave. Been looking at an Octavia but not so sure tbh. My daily commute is an 80Km round trip during rush hour traffic. 20 KM is Motorway, the rest is mostly the N7 with small town driving.

Currently I'm driving a 1.4 Astra and there is just no power in it. I'd like something slightly bigger tbh. As I've said I'm a student so nothing 2 litre or above.

    Suggestions please!

1.6 petrol 3 door focus would be a nice fit to your requirements imo.

if i had 6k to play around with id put it in the credit union and get a loan to buy a new electric car... very very low road tax if any and even lower running costs...

New electric cars are €25k, are they not?

To the OP, you are driving a 1.4 but say you would like something bigger up to 2.0, but do you really need that extra engine size? It'll cost you. Or are you just like me, in the mood for changing your car!

I'd like something bigger, even if that's just slightly.

is that a claimed figure at 55mph in 6th gear on the motorway, or mixed driving or what?

lovely looking car with a great set of stats

Old saxo VTR for a grand or less and spend the rest being a student. You only do that once, full time anyway.

Nice motor for the money, but road tax an extra €150 per yr compared to OPs car, in case that would be an issue. And probably higher insurance and less mpg too.

I think it's mixed. Vtecs are good on fuel if you don't push them but if you need the power it's there for you.

that car is a nice offering. a "modern" car i'd seriously consider! a bit of cow across the interior and post 08 tax (maybe) would sweeten that deal all the better. looks like a nice way to spend 6k though

These are great cars and a far better than the hatchback version as well.

Was 2007 not the year the 'new' shape Civic came out?

Nah, 2006. And that is the new shape Civic, only in saloon form and not hatchback

Both the saloon and hatchback were launched in 2006. The saloon was based on it's own Civic platform with fully independent rear suspension, while the hatchback was based on the jazz platform which used a cheaper semi independent rear suspension torsion beam giving it inferior ride and handling compared to the saloon.

    Is it?

I can't see any resemblance to the hatchback car, which even now I find very futuristic looking.

This just looks like a plain old corolla style design, i.e. a bit boring.

    Sorry, I worded that wrong.

What I mean is, the saloon Civic came out at the same time as the 'new shape' Civic your referring to. And it was in 2006, not 2007.

    Sorry

Saloon Civics are made in Japan/USA whereas the hatchback is made in the UK and designed specifically for the EU market.

    E46 M3.

What? It doesn't say that the limited budget has to include tax/insurance.

And 80km isn't THAT far every day.

And it'll still be tough to get one for 6k.

But yeah, that's what I'd get. Or an RX-8.
