NUIG PDE- 2nd subject query

    Hi All,

Apologies if this is one of those annoying questions that has been asked a million times before but I have had a root through the threads and couldnt find an answer.

I am applying for the PDE in NUIG. My degree is in English and Media so I will be putting down English as a teaching subject. I did History in 1st year and as far as I can establish, I cant put this down as a 2nd subject due to insufficient credits.

Do I just put down English and nothing else in the subject choice section of the PAC application form or are there subjects that you dont need a degree in but can be used as 2nd subjects (maybe a stupid question)? My partner did the dip a few years back and he thought that some people with only 1 subject were abel to take on CSPE. He may have been mistaken or this may have changed but just wanted to check. Would hate to be limiting myself to 1 subject if i dont have to.

    Hope this makes some sense.

Thanks for any advice. Im hoping to complete the application ASAP as the late registration deadline is next week.

    Thanks

After reading every post I could find, I figured out that English was all I could teach and I have gone ahead and applied!

The college will probably let you take history as your second methodology for the PDE although you won't be able to teach it as per teaching council rules. Definitely look in to getting those remaining history credits in the future as a second teaching subject is a must for obtaining a job. Best of luck with your application:)

If you've only one subject, you get to choose a specialist methodology to go with it. As far as I know it's when you start the course that you choose. See page 13-14 of this. http://www.nuigalway.ie/education/downloads/pde/pde_handbook_20122013_final.pdf
