WWE Raw #10....something (New Year's Eve) Discussion Topic

This show was recorded Saturday, and still no topic to discuss it? :P Were people that busy on New Year's Eve, or did they just not care.

WWE taped tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw from the Verizon Center in Washington D.C.

The theme for Monday Night Raw was that each would be able to call out their own opponent for a title match.

A New Year's Eve toast was announced for the main event, featuring Dolph Ziggler and AJ Lee. Miz TV was the first segment of the night, with John Cena coming out first, followed by Cody Rhodes and Damien Sandow. This set up the first match of the night.

    (1) The Miz & John Cena def. Team Rhodes Scholars

    (2) Antonio Cesaro def. Sgt. Slaughter to retain the United States Championship

    (3) Team Hell No def. 3MB (Jinder Mahal sat ringside) to retain the WWE Tag Team Championships.

CM Punk and Paul Heyman made their way out to the ring to cut a promo, much like they have since Punk had his knee surgery. Vince McMahon cut them off and announced that he would have his own WWE medics examine the Champion, in order to find out if Punk will be medically cleared for his title match with Ryback on January 7th.

    (4) Sheamus def. Dolph Ziggler via DQ after an attack from The Shield

There was a backstage segment where Brad Maddox asked Paul Heyman for a job, but was rejected.

WWE Divas Champion Eve was able to pick her own opponent, and decided on Mae Young. However Young wasn't backstage, so Eve "won" her match via forfeit. Kaitlyn attacked the champ afterwards.

    (5) Big Show def. Ricardo Rodriguez via DQ to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Alberto del Rio made the save and caused the DQ finish.

    (6) Wade Barrett def. Kofi Kingston to become the new Intercontinental Champion

The Shield vs. Ryback never happened, as the Shield attacked Ryback on his way to the ring. Sheamus made the save, followed by a returning Randy Orton to even the odds. The Shield escaped through the crowd.

AJ Lee and Dolph Ziggler came out for the New Years Eve toast, but were interrupted by John Cena, who made some jokes about AJ's children. Cena also announced that he would be participating in the 2013 Royal Rumble, before what looked like excrement fell from the ceiling on Ziggler and AJ to end the night.

Didn't think it was too bad. The Mae Young angle, which isn't mentioned above cause they are taping spoilers as opposed to live ones, was atrocious though (At least the Santa angle last week was fun).

Pretty obvious they are in a holding pattern till next week though...

Jesus when you think they cant outdo themselves after the santa garbage last week they amaze you with the mae young bit. I honestly dont know who they think would be entertained by that.

Last segment with Dolph, AJ and Cena sounds vile.:(

Just read about that Mae Young bit. WTF??:(:(:(:(

Whoever thinks thats funny should be shot.

Just watched that Mae Young bit on YouTube.

I feel sorry for Bryan and Kane being involved. Hell, I even feel sorry for the likes of Ryder being involved. That was fcuking awful. Sounded like a collective groan from the crowd when it was shown too. Whoever thought that was funny needs to be shot in the face with a cannon.

I'm purposely leaving out info as you have to watch it yourself to see how bad it really is.

Thought they'd at least do a joke with Young where she gives birth to a handless mannequin in a "it's the rest of her kid" story but no.

Still.....can't wait till next week though. :D

You know I thought things couldnt get any worse than Natalya farting but that is blown out of the water with one of the worse cringe full segments I ever seen with Mae Young

What is with WWE these days, I cant stand it. I have it on series link but I reckon ill be deleting that.

We're in that weird period where they are just killing time till the Mania build starts next week. They know no one is watching on Xmas day or New Years day. Usually they'd just do a "Year in Review" show for one of them.

Hopefully with Rock back next week, a TLC match and the proper road to Mania starting, we can get some quality back...

If you ignore ALL the good stuff on this show I agree with the thread consensus.

Haven't even watched it yet but I can't wait for Mania season to begin already there seems to be so many roads they can go Lesnar vs HHH or Taker and Rock vs Punk or Cena or Bork or maybe even a heel Orton. Looking forward to Punk and Rock being built they have had it booked for 6 months now.

I only saw bits and pieces of the show. I thought the Cena/Dolph bit was alright. I enjoyed the segment with The Shield facing off against Sheamus, Orton and Ryback.

On the negative side, that skit involving Mae Young and Hornswoggle was genuinely one of the most disturbing things I've seen on WWE in a long time. That was wrong on so many levels. Then they cut to Michael Cole and his annoying fake laugh but surely even he must have realised deep down how terrible that was. Even thinking about it makes me want to go and take a shower.

Haven't watched it and don't intend to since figured it would just be filler. But they had Barrett win the title? and Orton's return(not that I noticed he was gone)

they know that alot of their viewers round crimbo/new years are going to be more occassional or first-time viewers, so having multiple title matches and a title chage hands is a good way to get them watching again next week for Rock's return and a possible TLC

Didn't she give birth to a hand in 2000? I think WWE has always been like this. These are unfunny segments.

You forgot to mention if Punk isn't medically cleared Paul Heyman would have to defend the title for him.

Anyway, for some reason I feel that Brock Lesnar is coming back next week (long overdue).

    Brock v Ryback?

that would be genuinely interesting unlike HHH v Brock again.

    Sorry, it's a copy/paste job from Wrestlezone.

Also, I don't think Heyman vs Ryback would be for the title, would it? I can't remember them saying it would be. I thought the advert said it's either the TLC for the title, OR the singles match.

In that case it'll be the singles match. No way Ryback is losing again. They put too much into him to have him constantly lose title matches.

I don't know....I wouldn't be hugely surprised to see them having Brock help Punk or Lesnar win, and then have Brock vs Ryback at Rumble. Give Ryback a massive, MASSIVE win over Brock to give him a huge boost.

If Ryback keeps getting screwed out of matches it could make him finally winning the title (or rumble) into a bigger moment.

Some good things on RAW, pity the 3 hours makes it hard to get through and leaves so much room for filler/nonsense.

best bit for me was when Vince appeared, though Heyma and Punk were great during that segment, the look on Punks face at times was hilarious.

The Ziggler / Cena bit was going well until the silly ending.

I wonder if Cesaro's USA stuff will go anywhere? I wouldn't mind it leading to a Swagger return, can't beleive he is not on TV when they have so much time to fill.

on the Backstage stuff, I thought the bit with Vick, Punk and Heyman was great, same for Punk/Heyman Maddox. Lolled at Brodus yelling at McGillicutty and Riley that they look ridiculous.

Enjoyed the Shield getting one over on Sheamus - then Ryback only for Sheamus and Orton to appear and save the day.

I wasn't impressed with Sandow and Cody losing though, they are meant to be a proper team and should be able to outwit a first time duo.

Another Heel Champion in Wade, I guess we will see Wade v Miz soon?

Big Show and Del Rio could be interesting, i'm not sure about the WHC scene at the moment, so hard to know where it could lead.

Would that not be awfully rushed for a Lesnar match? And losing at the Rumble would make his Wrestlemania match less important.

Cause he's been booked sooooo well so far ;P

At this stage, I wouldn't be surprised if Ryback moves towards a Mania match with Punk for the title now. As DM ICE said, they have been building to him winning the title for ages, and it could be a genuine Mania Moment.

Having him beat Brock at the Rumble, and/or winning the Rumble and then having him beat Punk at Mania for the title is Wrestling Booking 101.

As it is, he's the guy who beat the bollocks out of Cena before getting too cocky, then broke Triple H's arm, then broke Michaels' arm, then seemingly retired Triple H. Hasent been doing too badly overall. :P

Having him face Ryback (who's last PPV victory was in July!!!!!) with only a few weeks of build and then losing to him would make Wrestlemania pointless. As it is, Lesnar is a big deal. Losing this close to Wrestlemania against someone who is on such a bad run will take that away from him.

If Lesnar is appearing at the Rumble, I'd hope its a run in or as part of the Rumble. If he is in the Rumble, have him in it late and Triple H or whoever he is facing at Wrestlemania distract him so Ryback or Sheamus or whoever can eliminate him. Two birds with one stone. Someone gets the big deal of eliminating him while also setting up his Wrestlemania match.

As you may be able to tell, I used to do the fantasy booking a lot :pac:

I honestly thought they would have Swagger return for this match instead of reanimating the body of Slaughter

I hope they are leading to something anyway. Here is my idea (they can rob it if they like), they promoted the 20th anniversary show for the 14th so I can see him facing another legend next week as well (maybe Hacksaw next week or something with Tony Atlas). Then Bring JacK back with the legends support so its clear he is face.
