Well, 'tis almost upon us, (and I forgot to write in the 2012 one last year)...

What are your hopes/dreams/wishes for 2013?

    Mine are:

    - Am currently stuck in a sticky situation between 2 people at the moment, and I hope this gets resolved, one way or another, early in 2013.

    - Take up another new and interesting hobby...am thinking of joining a choir! Have the info on it/where its on etc, just need to get the cajones to go.

    - Save up some $$$

    - This year, I went to Thailand (twice) and Cambodia, and I would love to go back there...if not, maybe south america on some wacky adventure.

There are a few things I want to get done, but these would be the main ones:

    - Pass exams

    - Visit Auschwitz

    - Do a TEFL course

    In that order.

Keep doing what I'm doing workwise. Grab every opportunity & hope for a sprinkle of luck, but mostly keep working my ass off.

Say hello to a new year. The year of kind, respectful, lovely, sexy love.

Keep appreciating my fab, one in a million friends.

    Running my first half marathon

Getting on top of my depression and being more positive

    Knitting a jumper

Convincing my hubby we need a cat

I reckon the first three are doable, not so sure about the last one :p

    - Moving out of my parents house and finding a place of my own
    - Getting back to doing all the things I should be doing to help my health problems, eg. physio exercises, gym, eating healthy etc that have fallen by the wayside in recent months
    - Make new friends and have a more active social life
    - Do a night class and maybe look at starting my Masters later in the year
    - Travel more!

First and foremost our wedding in June, and of course the honeymoon (and the month off work!)

Two of our friends are also getting married, one couple in May and the other in August - we get to fly to Poland for that one :)

Meeting our new niece this summer, hopefully she arrives before the wedding!

Myself and OH will have a joint 30th in autumn and it'll be MEGA

All in all it's shaping up to be an amazing year!

2013, I'm looking forward to the day I get work. I finished college last may and still looking. So it cant be any longer (i hope).

Also looking forward to what extra money it'll bring. Would love to move out of home and into my own place. So its the first thing il do as soon as I get work.

In the mean time i'm going to work on losing two stone in weight. I really let myself go while in college and especially over the xmas.

I'm also starting on plan B this week if I dont get work. Going to save whatever dole I can and put it towards going to Australia. I have the savings for the Oz bank account but not the flights to get over there. So it'll probably be May before I decide for sure and hopefully go over for August.

I've been messed around by a guy in 2012. Told him how he was treating me was hurting me but no change from him. So I told him to get lost. Im still so hurt by him and how I was such a fool for giving him a chance. 2013, Im just wishing he gets fcked over badly. I believe in karma.

Start marathon training (May...five months )

Sort out my post-Canada life (slightly terrifying)

Say goodbye to men drama. No more turning my life around for anyone until they've proved they're worth it. Hello single life!

Get my diet back in order (says she surrounded by empty Roses wrappers...)

Taking time for myself. Life has been so stressful lately. Think I need to become more of a friend to myself.

Happy 2013 to one and all! :)x

My goals for this year are:

    - become debt free by the end of 2013; after years of being a slave to my credit card, I have cut it up once and for all, and using money I received for Christmas paid off a good chunk of it, will pay off the rest in the next month or two. Also, my loan repayments finish in November this year; that was five long years. It will be so nice not to have the burden of those two hanging over me anymore.

    - once I get that first one sorted, I want to start saving, just something small every week to build up a small nest egg.

    - apply myself more in University assignments and turn up to every class, even on those cold wet miserable mornings; although I did ok this year, I know that really didn't push myself. As my marks will count next year I need to get better at putting in the effort. Otherwise I will look back and regret it.

    - keep in touch with friends who are abroad, make more of an effort to email and skype and keep up with how they are. It's so easy to get caught up in my own things and just focus on the people I see regularly, I don't want to lose touch with friend just because they are far away.

    - not fight with my mother so much; I know we get on each others nerves a lot, especially around Christmas time, but she is a great person, and I know she means well. So make more of an effort to be kind to her and appreciate her. My parents have been so supportive of me, and I know that I am lucky that they are both in good health physically and mentally.

    - be a bit more social; I have really got stuck in a rut the last few years, only seeing the same people and not really making an effort to do something new or exciting. Although I have good friends, it's always nice to meet new people, and put myself out there more. I may even meet a nice man - haven't had one in a while :-)

    - appreciate the good things; it took me a long time to realise that I am in control of my own happiness, and for me it is a choice to be positive and appreciate the good things in my life. At a time when many people are really struggling, I know that I am incredibly lucky - I have good health, family and friends, and I am doing a University course that I love. I need to take stock and be grateful more often, and focus on what I have as opposed to what I haven't got.

    My resolutions are

    Start my career

    Manage my debt well

Lose about half my body weight :P

    Work on my confidence

Maybe maybe be medication free at some stage, but only if its right

And I'm giving up fizzy drinks!

    Just gotta be strong :)

    So....

    1) I've been neglecting starting a diet for quite a while now, so it's about time I cut out all of the sugar I eat and get back into walking. Can't wait to get back in shape. :P

    2) My incredibly gorgeous boyfriend passing all of his exams and graduating and me saying "I told you so." ;)

    3) Turning 20, 19 is a horrible age to be. :P

    4) Actually starting college for the third time, and loving it. :P

    5) Celebrating a year with my boyfriend in October. <3

    6) Possibly a holiday sometime in summer, can't guarantee it though. :)

I think I'm going to use this as a reminder throughout the year to keep me focused!

-lose the half stone that has crept back up since I last lost it.. and keep it off!

    -Finish my masters in July

-Once finished my masters focus on finding a new job - something challenging that involves me using my brain as opposed to current mind numbing role!.

-Saving more money - less spending on frivolous things I don't need.

-Keep an eye out for a nice man ... can't over think this one or I could drive myself mad

... I may need to edit this in the future:rolleyes:

Same here - I know it might seem minor to some people but really would like to meet someone at this stage of my life but like you I have a habit of overthinking so must try not to let it drag me down!

Lose a bit of weight and get fitter.
Get a handle on my MS and not let the diagnosis take over my life
    Get a better work/life balance
Try not to mess up my relationship cos it's perfect and I tend to start looking for issues where there are none
Be a better mum. I'm a pretty awesome mother but there's always room.for improvement.

    - keep working hard at work, have a great job so happy out there and make sure to make the most of it

    - try get properly fit and stay in shape, stay injury free

    - similar to above, keep my eye out for a nice lady! (i'm definitely guilty of over-thinking this and I don't think that helps), at that kind of stage where meeting someone would be pretty cool

    - hopefully all friends and family stay healthy :)

    Happy 2013 all !!

Firstly happy new year to all!!

I have been wishing away the last few days just to get out of 2012, normally I would find NYE can be a little sad, saying goodbye to a year, but this year I was so excited.

2012 was a tough year, but I just feel 2013 is going to be a great year ...... so:

    1. Cannot wait to see my new nephew for the first time in the summer when my sister comes to visit from Oz for a few weeks.
    2. Discover what I really want to do with my career..... maybe I dont like climbing the corporate ladder... yes the money is good, but does it make me happy?
    3. Move on from my break up in 2012..... 8 years of my life was given to it, now its time to concentrate on myself and finally decide what I want out of life!
    4. Give K a chance and see if anything happens, he is a nice guy, but make sure he is not a rebound guy!!
    5. Get back running, and general improvement in fitness
    6. Start saving money and stop spending like there is no tomorrow!
    7. Find a new hobby!
    8. Volunteer for charity, give something back.
    9. Travel
    10. Generally just be happier and more positive....
    11. Give up Facebook - its actually depressing!!

I hope to look back on this next year and please god Ill have achieved everything!!

Hmmm.. was great to look back on the 2012 thread. This year I hope to...

    1. Tone up the arms and stomach, work towards a 10k run
    2. Continue enjoying being single and mingling
    3. Get a clearer view as to where I want to go in terms of a Masters and start saving for it
    4. Start researching buying a house and saving
    5. Secure a permanent contract
    6. Career: complete some courses
    7. Begin volunteer work
    8. Run a 5k race
    9. Travel around Europe or S.America
    10. Stay in Dublin
    11. Be as happy and healthy as I was in 2012 and hope the same for my family.

Will be hard to top the year that was 2012 but here's hoping 2013 will be just as amazing!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,512 ✭✭✭baby and crumble

2012 was a truly horrible year for me. I at least got my depression diagnosed and opened up about it, which meant 6 months off my phd, and when I came back I was told that I needed to aim for a masters rather than a phd. Bit of a horrible setback. I moved back in my Dad (at 30, which is just even more depressing), had a cancer scare, and fell out with a friend.

This year, though... This year has the makings of a good one. My best friend and his wife are expecting their first baby and are finally coming home from the US! Awesome.

I WILL finish college, whatever I get, and hopefully get a job. Or possibly set up my own business.

Myself and my fantastic gf are hoping to buy a house this year, which would be amazing.

I just have a good feeling about 2013...

I look forward to hopefully finding love with someone who'll treat me right but I'm not going to actively search for them. If it's meant to be, they'll find me. :)
I also look forward to cooking for my family at least once a week if funding permits. Cooking relaxes me.

Some of you may know my history but hopefully 2013 will be the year that my husband and I finally have a much wanted baby after many many losses.

Other aims are a little more basic.

To keep my business going, hard going in these times.

Spent at least 3 evening not turning on the laptop. I have gotten into a awful habit of just turning it on when I sit down in the evening and looking at FB, twitter, clothes sites and wondering what the hell has happened to my evening.

To read more. I used to read 2-3 books a week but over the last couple of years it had changed to 1 per month, more the last few months due to joining a book club but would like to read a book a week.

To be more tidy. I am clean but just messy which drives my poor husband crazy. I plan to spend at least 5 minutes each day making sure I put items back in the right place and not go " oh, I will do it later"

Having lost a lot of weight during 2012 I would like to keep it up and just feel good and healthy.

To save.... need I say more?

To stay positive and always look on the bright side.

To try and do one positive thing each day that is not for my own benefit and and to try and speak kindly or keep my gob shut.

To be able to say to my husband on NYE 2013 what a fantastic year....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 330 ✭✭statina

    1. To travel lots this year

    2. To complete a 10 km run

    3. To sort out certain family dynamics

    4. To save more and stop spending my money on nights out and eating out!

    5. To be a better friend and remember peoples birthdays- phone people more

    6. To spend less time on the internet and seriously limit FB time- half the time its complete rubbish!

    7. To get out there more and broaden my circle of friends.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 937 ✭✭✭newbee22

To continue being healthy and fit
    Get a new hobby
    Learn to play an instrument
    Some travelling- hopefully Thailand!
Save money and stop buying stupid things

I like this thread, 2012 wasn't great for me and I'm feeling particularly optimistic about 2013 :) It's also the last year of my 20's, I'll be 30 at the end of Dec so I feel it's time to focus on what I want to be doing with my life and make some changes before I turn the big 30.

Here are my plans so far:
    > start re-training for a new career
    > get a better work-life balance so I can get some more quality time with my little girl
    > get fit again, no weight to lose but really need to tone up and just be healthier in general so I'm going to head back to spinning classes this month and start doing my pilates more regularly. Also plan to start running & cycling again in the spring.

Am also quite hopeful developing a relationship with someone I've started seeing but I guess there is no controlling this one so fingers crossed

To finish college, 11 years after first starting!

To decide which of the 3 Big Things I have in my head that I'd like to do after I finish that I will do.

To stop letting vague worry & free floating anxiousness get in the way of doing little things and which ever Big Thing I pick

To get back to a healthy weight. 2012 sees me at my biggest for the last 4/5 years and copping the fudge on has to happen.

To stop waiting for the other shoe to drop and accept that I'm not actually bad at what I do

To give debt the heave ho

    To get my focus back.

To go on a few trips, catch up with friends dispersed over the world & spend at least 2 weeks giving out about being too hot

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,691 ✭✭✭Lia_lia

Finishing and graduating from college. (hopefully!!)

Getting my braces off. (getting seriously sick of them)

Hopefully travelling a bit during the summer.

Eventually moving to a far away country. Maybe Canada. (all depending on when I get the stupid braces off!!)

Eating more. I don't eat enough at all because I can't be arsed and I just end up losing too much weight.

Oh yeah...get my driving license! Have to stop driving around without a full license :/

Maybe run a half marathon. Did a few 10Ks this year with no training and they were grand. Did an adventure race too. Maybe if I actually properly trained for these things I could do quite well!

Taking a multivitamin everyday. I don't think I get enough vitamins/minerals with my shoddy vegetarian diet. Might be less tired.

Spend less money on crap. Whenever I get lots of money I tend to spend it on silly stuff like clothes/make-up/stuff I don't need. I'd be a lot richer if I budgeted a bit.

Focus more on college. Last semester was a write off.

I don't make resolutions anymore. I have aims, that I may or may not achieve.

    - Finish draft 1 of my novel
    - Enter at least one short story competition
    - Get better at drawing / painting with my tablet.
    - Get to Berlin

If I'm as happy at the end of 2013 as I am now, it will have been an excellent year.

    Losing weight.

    Getting engaged.

    Hopefully getting pregnant.

    Finishing college.

Moving into a new home with the boyfriend when our current lease is up.

Going on a mad holiday to Santa Ponsa with the girls (if I'm not pregnant).

    Going to Philadelphia.

I have been looking forward to 2013 since 2011, 2012 was just meh!

Dream job starts March 18th, a vascular ward which I'm delighted about!

No longer working just to get by, I will actually have extra money to spend on things I want!

This also means I get to come back to Galway and see my amazing family as I didn't get to come home much this past year due to finances.

Get back into shape, my healthy eating has only gotten me so far. Super sexy gym time for me! The OH says he'll miss the bootay but I think I have enough to spare!! :P

Actually getting to accompany my OH more when he travels up to his 2 boys, I haven't gotten to see them much (not in a pushy way, just would like to get to know the 2 people he cares most about!)

Moving out of this shíthole that we have had to live in due to finances!

Finally getting a new car - 4 years of traveling by a bus has slowly destroyed my soul!

Being able to spoil my man like he has spoiled me the last few years. I've felt a bit of a leach but oh how the tables shall turn!

TL;DR version... I have already spent the money I have yet to earn but dammit 2013 will be my time to shine!

Well I'm looking forward to 2013 being a better year than 2012 for one.

It's already shaping up to be that way, my brother & sister-in-law are coming home from Australia for two weeks in May so I'm looking forward to seeing them both, especially my sister-in-law as we haven't seen her for 3 years.

My parents hopefully getting planning permission to build a replacement house. My mum has bad arthritis and struggles with the stairs in our house, plus it's old, damp and very cold, so a new house would do them the world of good. They both struggle with the house, which is part of the reason I've decided to stay at home for now.

    Turning 30.

Quitting smoking. I'm waiting til the 6th Jan for this one, because I've a big night out Saturday and don't want to be spending it wishing I could go for a smoke, or feeling guilty that I've caved after being off them all week, so I decided Sunday is THE day.

Going on dates, and hopefully meeting a nice, normal, sound, good looking guy who wants to have a relationship with me.

Most of all, just being happy. If I'm happy all year, then that will be a good thing.

I graduated in 2012 so 2013 needs to revolve around getting my career on the go. So with that, and some more:

    - CAREER. I'm back in retail at the moment and it's breaking my heart. I graduated with a very good degree and did an internship with a well regarded company in the industry. Now it's just getting my CV together and knocking on doors! I may do a short course to gain a few more skills that I think will help give the CV a kick. So I'll be saving up for that now.

    - HOLIDAY. Dammit I want to go to the beach this year! Had a beautiful cultural city break with the OH back in October, so this year, I want sun and sea. I would also like to go to see my pal who's moved to London for college.

    - MOVE OUT?? This is a bit of a long term one, but I would really like to move out by the end of the year. Obviously this depends on the ol' job front.

    - DOGGY. If I go have to back on the dole, I'm going to look into fostering a dog.

    - My boyfriend finishing his degree
    - Passing some more actuary exams (finish is in sight now!)
    - Going to Toronto and Philadelphia
    - Doing even better at work, I will be managing someone this year so looking forward to that
    - Get a blog started
    - Be less lazy in certain aspects of life

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 355 ✭✭purplegeko

Turning 30 so massive year for me but I'm certain its going to be a great year!
So here's what i'm looking forward to:

Number 1 biggest of all - for my mother who is currently on the transplant list. I just want my old mam back.

Not allowing myself to get upset or emotional or silly trivial things.

Get a permanent job and if i have to take my seasonal temp job in September don't be too proud to accept it but keep looking for something permanent

Enjoy myself a bit more - embrace life because its so short

Don't put up with people who don't value me or appreciate me for who I am

Here's hoping 2013 is a great year for everyone!

I turned 27 at the end of 2012, and for some reason, it feels like an awfully big deal. I feel like I need to make 2013 really count.

    So:

I got my career on track last year, so I want to develop laser-beam focus in that respect

I'm moving into my first apartment on my own in about two weeks' time, really looking forward to nesting and creating my own dream space (inasmusch as funds will allow!)

Recently got fcuked over by a man I should have left in 2011, so I can't wait to get the healing process over with this year (hopefully sooner rather than later!)

I also need to get a proper handle on my debt/monthly outgoings - looking forward to me having control over my finances rather than vice versa

Also looking forward to a fitter, healthier me - physically and mentally.

2012 was a mental one, mostly in a good way, but it was a challenge and I am very glad to see the back of it. Hopefully I won't be so keen to see the end of 2013 and it will be MY YEAR.

    - Sorting out my back once and for all, it's been annoying me for about 6 months now despite having been seeing a physio regularly
    - (related) More lifting and getting back to being able to run more
    - Do more yoga, and not just for the physical benefits, it's great for destressing and relaxing too.
    - Lose the relationship stone! Too much beer and good food is telling on my waistline.
    - Continue progressing in my job and sharpening my skills
    - I'm 29 in June, so time to enjoy the end of my 20s :)

This year I really want to......

Improve my photography, set up a facebook page as a way of kicking myself in the ass to get better.

Get back into walking, I used to be so good :o

Loose the spare 30lbs I am carrying around.

Try my hand at drifting

-Finishing my degree and exploring the opportunities it will open.

-Moving to a new house (hopefully!)

-Getting fit with my new love- boxing.

-My boyfriend's album (which was released on iTunes today!) hopefully making a name for him and enabling him to make a career doing what he loves.
