So we all like our big fancy expensive I'm better than next door cars ;)

But I have always wondered if a Vehicle manufacturer would let the general public design a car.

Say a lotto based system so it's fair to all. Include a few mechanics who have real knowledge of what goes wrong with the vast majority of today's cars. A few engineers but not the type that build to impress, We want reliability and practicality not a sports car that needs an €400 service and a months mortgage for tyres.

    Could this happen??

We would need a base to start with..Say a Family Saloon and an MPV

What size and interior room?? What extra's do we really need?? Engine size and performance? Fuel to run the vehicle?? and so on

    Any idea's???

It wouldn't be a saloon anyway. Saloons are impractical yokes. T'would have to be a lift-back/tourer.

They kind of do already. Manufacturers build based on what has sold before and what they think people will want.

It might not be your cup of tea but at the end of the day the market is king.

Depends where the people designing it are from.

People are obsessed with saloons in this country.

Local motors in the U.S. do this. I'm on mobile so can't easily grab a link though.

Practicality is practicality regardless of where you're from and the OP demands practicality:
    We want ... practicality

    so a saloon is out.

Yeah, I've always found that a bit odd.
