    hi guys,

    sorry if this has been discussed before but i can't find it.

    I know it's said that you need an 80cm solid dish to get saorsat but I have a spare 60cm mesh sky dish and was going to try putting a ka band lnb on it and point it at eutelsat 9e. Has anyone had success with this or does anyone know if it's possible.

    p.s the dish is not on the side of the house yet so i don't want to drill holes if it's not going to work.

    thanks for any help.

    sorry again if it has been discussed before.

    Not a chance, I've lined up a few, it definitely needs 80CM

    I've gotten it with a solid 60cm dish (from a B&Q, I believe, LNB that came with it is a Philex) in South Dublin. Had to use a regular Ku LNB to home in on 9E first, then slight adjustments to maximise the signal, but there have been no issues with it whenever I've watched the channels from there.

    In a similar vein, I was going to start a thread to ask if anyone here had managed to get it on a T55, but that's probably pushing it.

    You will not have good weather margin (high level ice crystals not just rain). Also many parts of Ireland have a lower signal than Dublin.

    For anyone doing a new install, much less than 80cm is foolish.

    As I understand a mesh fish will not work for KA signal?

    Depends on the size of the mesh, it's a wavelength thing, 1/16th is a rule of thumb for the biggest allowable hole size.

    20GHz => 1.5cm so 1mm holes

    The Sky dishes are perforated, not mesh, so the surface accuracy is an issue too. Fibre glass and plastic dishes use mesh, the hole size then is sole issue.
