Is there a point in buying a sniper rifle?

I mean, aren't airsoft sniper rifles just a spring rifle disguised as a sniper rifle? Couldn't I just put a scope on my M16 rifle and get the same benefits as a sniper plus the fully automatic option? I was thinking of buying a sniper rifle but then just thought, what are the benefits?

its a style of play where you have to be stealthy, have good observation skills good fieldcraft, and your first shot counts.

Well can't all of that apply to any ordinary AEG with a sniper scope on it?

not really as an AEG is waaaay louder than a decent springer, and people who use a ghillie suit and a scope'd aeg generally get over ambitious with their shots because " a sure i got me auto function and 5,000 drum mag", like i said with a bolty first shot counts.

Yes, the term "sniper" isn't applied to the rifle used. It's applied to the person behind it. It's being able to move quietly and swiftly without being detected, being able to know when to shoot and when not to, being able to camouflage yourself perfectly, etc, etc. The rifle is just a tool. An airsoft "sniper" rifle, i.e, spring rifle, when upgraded/modified correctly is whisper quiet and very accurate and can reach some decent range. But having a quiet and accurate gun is no good, if you stick out like a sore thumb.

This is airsoft, go with whatever pleases you, its your money, your game, who cares what other people think.

In my book using an aeg based sniper doesnt make you any less of one and if only used on semi, you'll prob get better range, with the right mods of course:cool:

And to be fair if you slap on a scope onto an m16 with a bipod and fire on semi then you have a DMR (designated marksman rifle) that is employed by most good countries around the world.
As lemming and thermo said it's the act of fieldcraft that make someone a sniper not their weapon.
As jayod said it's your money do what you want with it if you like the idea of playing a sniper role and decide you would rather firepower over accuracy then so be it.
As long as your the guy to shoot and hit first what does it matter to anyone else whether it's by an Aeg or a sniper type rifle

A scope on a regular AEG is a useless accoutrement. It's like putting a nitrous kit on a 1L Micra; yeah, it'll work technically, but it's more for show than anything, and actually hinders performance.
If you tart up an M16 and call it a "sniper rifle", you're only denying yourself any chance to actually snipe. If anything, I'd class you (metaphorical you, now) as a support gunner.

A decent bolty, like a TM VSR G-Spec, will out-range and out-shoot most rifles you'll see on any field, and it'll do it without any upgrades. Throw a few quid at it for some adjustments and you'll end up with something so quiet it can't be heard from five yards away, but has a thirty yard range advantage over everyone else. Now you're silent, more accurate, and able to engage from longer ranges than your targets. You'll never achieve that with an AEG.

Even the argument of an M16 with a scope being a DMR is fairly shaky. Yes, marksmen are employed in every military system in the world, but more often than not, it's with an "accurised" version of a rifle, and not just a scope on a bog standard one. Things like the M110 are a perfect example. Looks like an M16 from distance, but is very different. M14's are still a go-to DMR. Even G3's and FAL's. Basically, 7.62 long rifles.

You can still do it, if you want, and never let anyone bad mouth you for trying it out. Just know that it's not the same. Sniper duties are not about sitting back with a scope and picking people off, it's about skill and stealth, and a lot of judgement.

I've said it for years: there's a hundreds (probably thousands by now) of people in this country with bolt action rifles, but I've only met four snipers.

Cheers for enlightening me! I do know sniping is not staying back and picking off enemies one by one. I'm really considering a sniper rifle now. Do you have any sniper rifle recommendations for newbs? or anyone at all for that matter? Preferably a budget sniper rifle, I don't want to go all out there just yet.

Tokyo marui VSR-10 if you save the penny's.

Budget, Jing gong bar 10, a clone of the Tokyo marui at a much lower price and great upgrade potential.

Yeah the VSR10 G-Spec is sort of the king of bolt action rifles in this country.
The BAR10 is a direct clone, by JG. It's not quite as good, but it's easily the best budget bolty out there. It's compatible with TM VSR parts too, so plenty of upgrades available.

Cheers lads! Do you happen to know where I can buy the BAR 10 clone?
