    Hi guys and gals.

Hopefully someone can help me, I keep reading more and more, and getting myself all confused.

    Our setup at the moment:

    Dish
Old sky dish receiving free channels. No card.
Tv - LG something or other. No SAORVIEW.

Is there anything I can do easily to get more channels? For example, with the Sky box and no card, I can't get Dave and the like.

Without having to resort to a paid Sky sub, what can I do to get more channels? New box?

Free sat will pull in free uk channels and digital aerial will get Irish digital. That's what I have with no subscription. You can't get any more as far as I know

If you have a UHF aerial (no such thing as a digital aerial) and had a good tv3 picture before analogue switch off you can add a Saorview box for the Irish channels. If you replace the sky box with a combi Box and connect both aerial and satellite dish you will have the saorview channels and free to air satellite channels on one box.

Dave isn't free to air on satellite but if you live in an area that has overspill from a UK terrestrial transmitter you will be able to recieve it via a UHF aerial. Find a good local installer and ask questions would be the best advice. You could try here http://www.isaa.tv/isaamap.htm

Be wary and careful dealing with installers whether member of these voluntary un regulated bodies ... Guild members etc I got stung by a right cowboy. Bad apples in every barrel I suppose ... Don't take them all as master craftsmen just cause they pay a few quid every year to a association ! As I said above you can only get Irish stations and the free to air for free

    Unless you get a Dreambox

Believe it or not that is not what Dreamboxes were designed for and is not what they are exclusively sold for. Nearly any box can do what you are thinking of. And what you are thinking of cannot be discussed here.

A combo box will legally get you all the Irish channels off an aerial and all the UK Free Satellite channels.

Maybe Freeview is available through a Group A aerial from the Divis Transmitter in Antrim in your area or Preseli in Wales?
Lots of nice English content on Badr4 at 26E with a good 1.2 metre dish I believe, I watched some of it on the net for the last few weeks.

I've already banned GoodisonPark for discussing card-sharing in another thread. I'll not hesitate to ban the next person who tries to discuss it too.

Sorry if I gave the wrong impression, mods, I didn't mean to allude to wanting info on anything frowned upon.

I actually meant to ask if i change my box for a different one, would it open me up to different (more) channels?

Swap out the Sky box for a basic Freesat zapper box will give you the channels listed here, no Irish channels.

To get the Irish channels a separate Saorview STB or a combi sat/saorview box will be required and attached to an aerial.

Have a look at the foreign satellite forum
Eurosport is free to air on other satellites

Also if you are on the east coast / border then possibility of UK DTT overspill , see if any of the neighbours have huge TV aerials , this might get you Dave etc. free to air
