    so interesting night out!
went to the local only place to go now that everything is closed down and a friend got told no he couldnt come in because he was antagonizing staff. he has never done any of the sort and we have been there nearly every saturday nite for the past few months ( i know real interesting lives!)
last weekend he was out with one of the barmens ex girlfriend (real trivial ****) and the barman started on him, made him look bad and got him kicked out.
so what im looking to find out is what rights has he got? has he got any come back on this place? im confused having watched the whole play!

They have a right to refuse anyone entrance.

As above, unless the treatment is prohibited on equal status grounds such as race or ethnicity.

He could always make a complaint directly to the owner of the pub and see what they say.

I'm in the bar trade myself, he doesn't have legal recourse, publicans/managers have the right to refuse service/admission on the grounds explained to you, otherwise you couldn't keep out troublemakers or scrotes and your pub would be destroyed...

If the story is genuine then i would take it up with the owner/manager. From my experience working in bars and clubs managers will generally consider what a punter has to say before making a decision. They also often do not like staff taking the piss nd barring customers due to personal vendettas. It depends on the quality of the bar manager but this is definately worth trying.

Remember the managers bottom line is profit so exaggerate the number of friends/family who are outraged by the situation nd will not be frequenting mthe premises anymore.

If you get this ban reversed, watch what you're being served by that barman in future.

    Go to the bar manager.

Don't forget you have 30 friends who won't be drinking in there again
And they will never hold a 21st, 30th or christening in there

    Then wait

People seem to enjoy posting such complaints to the Bar/Restaurant/Night Club's Facebook pages these days, I saw a complaint going up the other day on a local bar's Facebook page's wall and it got over 300 likes.

I wouldn't be bothered doing it, I remember I had a problem with a nightclub before and I emailed them directly. They got in contact with me and promised free passes for me and my friends the next time we were going over.

    Object to their licence renewal.

On what grounds? The licencing authorities are concerned with whether alcohol is being abused. They're not going to be upset that a bar is restricting the sale of alcohol. It's bad business from the bar's point of view so the owner/manager would take a dim view of it. Though they wouldn't be guaranteed to accept your version of events over their staff's.

If the barman was making untrue allegations there may be grounds for a defamation action. If your friend is willing to pay for a solicitor of course and the case may boil down to he said/ she said. I'm certainly not suggesting this as a practical action but as this is the legal forum I'd just point it out.

They can refuse entry/service for whatever reason they want. Sure I was barred from a place after my drink was spiked.

Which drink was spiked, the 10 or the 11.

    The third, thanks.
