Grew some balls and asked her out

Not really looking for advice or help, I'm just posting to make myself feel better and maybe someone else is in the same boat.

I've been friends with this great looking, fun girl for 6 years. At the start we worked together, we hung out non stop for about 8 months but I got stuck in the infamous friendzone. Over that summer we were in contact non stop, doing stuff together etc etc, even ended up going abroad for 3 weeks (which wound up as a bit of a disaster but anyways). She eventually finished college and moved abroad for several years with just the odd bit of contact. I never had the guts to make a move or ask her out, it had just gone on too long and I knew i'd blow the whole thing (no excuse but that was the logic).

Everyone I worked with and friends always wanted to know if we were going out etc, I really made a balls of it and made me sick to my core.

Anyways she was home there from the UK staying with her family the last few weeks, we met up a few times for drinks and had a great time, everything came flooding back to me. We like the same things, laugh at the same stupid stuff etc etc.

So I finally grew a set of balls and asked her out yesterday. As flattered as she was, it was a no-go. :( Shes in a "hates all men" stage and wants to stay great friends. She was really nice about it.

Needless to say, my heart has snapped in two and I feel like shít. Its so hard with someone you know for so long, the rejection is tough.

But I have to say I don't have an OUNCE of embarrassment or shame having asked, which has surprised me. Maybe its because i'm now happy she knows and its all out there now. I have a small sense of relief thats currently being out-weighed by a huge amount of sadness, but hopefully that will fade away.

It was killing me swallowing up my emotions every time I saw her, what with the wishing and the hoping, so i'm no worse off now really.

So if you're in the same boat, just ASK HER and stop wasting your time! :)

OP, I'm glad you got up the courage to ask her, and I'm glad you are feeling 'ok' and a sense of relief now that you've done it.

As your post is not looking for advice, I will close it to stop it turning into a blog or a back and forth discussion, but it will be left here for others to read and maybe take hope/comfort from.

Well done on asking her out, and now that you are not holding yourself back 'waiting' for this girl, you can move on and find another lovely girl who would be delighted to go out with you.

All the best to you in the new year,
    Big Bag of Chips.
