We are trying to vote our local man Stephen Redmond as World Open Water Swimmer of the Year, and you be very grateful if you could help us out by voting for him.

Stephen has fallen back to second place , so we need every vote we can get. Voting ends on 31/12/12 - SO VOTE NOW!!

Swimming is a low profile sport in this country and particularly open water swimming. However, Stephen has achieved a world first by being the first swimmer ever to swim the Ocean's Seven : "Ocean's Seven is a group of 7 long distance swims scattered across the globe: Irish Channel, the Cook Strait, the Molokai Channel, the English Channel, the Catalina Channel, the Tsugaru Strait and the Strait of Gibraltar. It has only been completed by one person ever: on Saturday July 14th 2012, Mr Redmond from Ballydehob, Co. Cork, Ireland became the first person to complete the Ocean 7's Challenge when he successfully crossed the Tsugaru Strait in Japan" Not taking from the achievements and merits of other Nominees for this year's Open Water Male Swimmer of the Year and Performance of the Year, in our opinion Stephen Redmond outshines them all. In his very humble way he accepts all the accolades he so well deserves, but when it comes to the world stage he is not in the spotlight. The votes on the WOWSA website are a popular vote, hence driven by how many people know and admire what each nominee has achieved and whom they know. Anybody can vote and there-in lies our opportunity to raise the profile of Irish Open Water Swimming Heroes of which Stephen certainly is the pinnacle. So - please - no matter if you have a particular interest in our sport or not - please support our campaign! And pass on this too.

You can vote for him here :

VOTING ENDS ON 31/12/12 - PLEASE VOTE FOR HIM NOW.

    Many thanks
