Should the "Bands and Musicians Community" forum be renamed ?

Just throwing this out for discussion. When the idea of having this forum was first debated, I pointed out that I could foresee a lot of extra work for the Mods in transferring threads here from the "Musicians Wanted" forum. I suggested that a different title might help.

At the time, it was said that this would be no problem and that people would soon post in the right forum, as soon as the new one had time to bed in.

I take no pleasure in saying that my forecast appears to have been correct. On a daily basis I see threads locked with "Please read the charter" written in bold capitals. As I type, there is at least two "Musicians Wanted" posts on the first page.

To be honest, I cant really blame people posting in the "Bands and Musicians Community" forum. IMO the title suggests that posting anything to do with bands or musicians, is acceptable.

I don't have any unique original titles in mind. For now, the best I can come up with is "Musician Talk" or "Musician's Chat Room", anything without the word "bands" would help. While it it by no means a total solution, hopefully people might not be as inclined to seek musicians here.

Maybe someone can come up with a better title.

Either way, IMO it should be changed.

What say all of you ? :)

I have always thought the split wasn't done correctly and invited the Wanted threads into the main B&M forum.

A renaming would do no harm, to what I'm not sure, but it would be nice to keep the Musicians Wanted section completely separate. The amount of incessant bumping and multiple threads from the same posters is best kept far, far away.

    I agree.

I think it’s simply an issue of said posters not noticing the sub-forum at the top of the page (which to be fair, is not a feature on every forum across boards). Also, I would wager that most of these “out of place” posts are from users with less than 25 posts (perhaps using boards for the first time).
I’ve no idea what sort of new name could do the trick. Maybe a sticky could be placed underneath “Bands & Musicians Resources” to try and get the attention of these problem posters?

    Hello,

I saw this when you posted, but I wanted to see what the feedback was first. In a nutshell we (the mods) might have to move maybe 10 threads a week over to the wanted section. I'm all up for renaming, as long as it's needed. I would love more traffic here. There's some really good contributors on this forum. If you have any ideas, I'm all ears.

This shouldn't happen. We recently had a revamp with Malice leaving and 2 new mods were appointed. A simple mistake. Threads should be moved with no re-direct, so you the user, shouldn't see them on the front page. Also, it really helps us if you use the report function as we might not look at the forum for a few days.

Would you mind expanding on what you thought was done incorrectly? I like to think we are pretty open with ideas from members as we are just moderators. We don't claim ownership of this forum, we just like to help guide it along and keep it nice and neat.

I don't understand what a completely separate forum would achieve tbh. If this community forum was under hosted for instance, traffic would drop off. If the wanted section was in hosted, we would be inundated with posters with less than 25 posts bombarding the community with wanted ads. Much worse than before, in my opinion.

I could have a chat and see if it is possible to stop posters with less than 25 posts to post on the community forum? Most of the misplaced wanted ads come from people with about 10 posts.

Any other ideas are more than welcome!
