They did state that 1000 wass the aim but it would all depend on how many applied for it. i personally thought it would be less.

No sign of my payment yet, anyone else still waiting?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 867 ✭✭✭locky76

I got paid on Xmas eve and it was €925, a bit annoying alright that there's no explanation as to why the €75 was docked/with-held...
Still after my first year I'd stay in it even if there was no money for it, i think I will improve the place by multiples of the €1k due to the advice and exposure to professionals which this scheme allows...:)

Got mine yesterday €925. Wasn't sure if I was going to stick with it for next year but now I think I will as I thought it would be snipped by more.

is it not modulation? i remember when we got the dep we too where told it would be 1000, think we got under 900 last year.... when you take your teagasc fees and transport time out to meetings theres not much left, but in fairness i would go to the group even if there was no payment

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,326 ✭✭✭Farmer Pudsey

Got it in the post was paid the 21st 925 euro's. Like most others not a lot in it also will cost extra next year as vat on Teagasc Fees. Will however stick with it it might encourage the fella's there only for the cheque to F##K off. Ours was a small group and only half were intrested in the group the other half was there for the payment. Mind you I think that when it covers costs it is worth it if you are intrested.

The reason ye got €925 and not €1,000 is because the €1000 was dependent on the numbers that joined the scheme. It was over subscribed, so the €1000 was reduced to €925 to cater for everyone who joined.

I was at a STAP meeting last night where Teagasc gave that as the reason. The €1000 is the figure for STAP as well, but it will depend on the numbers who join it. Looking at the roll as it went by me, I don't expect to receive €1000.

Our BTAP is starting in the next 2 weeks. Advisor is busy getting information for the profit monitor as none of us did it last year. Looking forward to another year at it. Hopefully the majority of the information won't be about survivng a bad summer and fodder shortage and we can get on to some stuff that will develop the farm and move it forward!

How many of ye guys are happy with your BTAP facilitator? My fella is absolutely useless. Every meeting consists of asking everybody how they are for grass, go out to take a look at the stock and that's it. My biggest interest in farming is breeding and from what I have heard from people in other groups there is very little emphasis on improving genetics in the herd.

How much per annum inc vat if I were to join teagasc to get into this scheme ?

There's one thing to keep in mind regarding the profit monitor which one has to pick this year. You'll need microsoft excel (full version)on your computer. Many home computers may not have this or just the "read only" version as I found out myself. Anyway its going to cost me another €119. Beginning to wonder if its worth it.

If you log into your Herdplus account and click the button that says profit monitor there is a complete application for you to fill everything into. You can do it in stages. Enter so much data and hit save. Once done it will calculate everything for you.

It's called a discussion group. If you want a topic discussed then bring it up.
The role is facilitator not play group leader. He's not there to spoon feed ye. Once the meeting is organised, and notices sent out then his job is basically done beyond this he's probably going to be on the Teagasc message for most things. If you want a topic discussed then it's up to you to raise it but be prepared for some robust responses especially on a topic like breeding.

agree 100% , it is called a discussion group after all no use, standing listening to the one person talking, you have to part take

All true but at the same time a good facilitator can get the quieter lads involved, keep the lid on the more vocal/time hogging members and keep the meeting focussed on topic and relevant.. Also I dont think the private facilitators will be on anyone's message.

Had our first meeting back this year and really happy with it. the facillitator is doing a really good job and slowly dragging people into the topics and dragging the topics out of us, so alls going well. Trust seems to be building up which means a lot.
He said that we still may receive the 75 balance when all the payments are made and lads that will be removed or didnt make the necessary criteria are balanced. At this stage i would still go even if we were not getting paid. Learning a lot from it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 354 ✭✭Pharaoh1

I see that the conditions for entry to BTAP have been relaxed.
Non breeding farms now no longer need to finish cattle.

Membership of ICBF and the BLQAS are now the only requirements.

This will allow me to join and we had our first meeting this week.

I sent off my application today anyway ... Would really like to get into it the money is one thing but educational value would be good also ... Teagasc Annual fee 300?
    icbf annual cost ?
    Bord Bia Quality Assurance ?
Is the last one free subject to an audit ?

Bord Bia Quality Assurance is subject to an audit. I think it is only applicable to Farmers that send cattle to the factory. It has got a bit harder over the years however if the you have the main criteria right it is Ok. The main things are your herd book/profile is up to date that all animal have tags asper department regulations, animal medicine records are up to date and that you keep a record of your feed stuff, Health and safty book filled out.

I am sure you do all these anyway Bodacious.

Teagasc Annual fee make sure to fill as per regulations and this yera I think that there will be VAT on it so 300 will become 369 etc.

    thanks FP,

I wouldnt have a problem with any of that criteria, the health and safety book filled out would be one thing i not doing Teagasc @ €369 is alot of money for a small part time suckler herd... are they worth it like?

I don't know about anyone else, but my €369 last year also covered a good bit of work on map changes for the SFP last year as well as work on the maps when they were returned to me the second time. Advisor was always at the end of the phone for any questions that I had and encouraged me to pick up the phone with any questions. The cost was well worth it in my case. I was a winner on all sides!

I am a bit confused regarding the requirements of this scheme in relation to the Quality Assurance Scheme. If I do not ever send animals to the factory, do I have to join it?

Cant get a link to work but if you look at the terms and conditions for BTAP2013 on the Dept of Ag website it is pretty clear

Can anyone tell me if I haven't been in btap to date can I join for 2014. Only took over management of farm during this year and we were not in it or the beef data program either since they started.

We'd be doing most of the measures anyway so might as well get the few quid if we can and go join a group to have a chat with a few like minded people.

I'd second that. I'm in STAP not BTAP, but our facilitator reckoned the Dept were looking at letting people into STAP next year, maybe the same will be true for BTAP.

Most of ours this year were held at 5.30pm. An independent inspector even turned up for one of them. That was the original reason we were told that they had to be held earlier in the day. Teagasc mightn't be as amenable to evening meetings though.

They should all be in the evening imo, national event was an all dayer, my own was another day (had to get few bits ready) 3 other local farm visits, were 11am jobs.. I asked for the final one to be an evening as I was fed up taking days off..ill be pushing for 100% 5 out of 5 local ones to be evenings next year.. I don't mind the national event as travel involved

The payment was to encourage people to get involved not as a form of extra income. The extra income was supposed to come from improvements you make based on the knowledge you gain at the meetings and through discussion. If you are in the discussion group for that payment you and the group you're with would be better off if you stayed out of it.

I contributed quiet a lot to the group actually, I know its not a money making exercise but you shouldn't be out of pocket either

To say "the group you're with would be better off if you stayed out of it" is a bit harsh considering im a young progressive farmer with a BSc Agriculture (livestock), ive worked on beef farms in USA/UK, have a sound knowledge of beef farming/ strip graze/reseed etc

I don't really care what you think but as I posted im a part time farmer and don't tell me freedom if you had 25% missing off your milk cheque this month that you'd be okay with it
