What cable/converter do we need to connect a nes to a HDTV?

Don't think it will need a converter/adaptor, it should have composite cables (yellow, red and white cables) which your TV should have inputs for (If not a composite to scart converter should be cheap) or it will have an RF modulator that will plug into the aerial input for the TV.

It will look pretty horrible (240p) and AFAIK the light gun won't work.

Hmm, a NES on anything but a crt, otherwise known as a regular tv, is a disaster.
It just won't look nice at all.
Better to use a cheap portable tv, get one on adverts for feck all, but as said the composite cables will plug straight into a current set no problems.

The composite to scart adapter linked above is the better solution, but on a HDTV the NES will look dismal. They're really better played through a crt using said adapter

Can I ask why you want to do this anyway? Or is at as simple as you just want to play your nes?

Whatever you do don't use an RF connection (aerial connection). It will look like ****e and take ages to tune in. Ue a AV composite connection. It will look crap but it won't look anywhere near as abysmal as with RF.
