    Hi guys,
going to build a cheap pc and am looking for advice. It will be nothing too interesting but here goes.

    1. What is your budget?
    Around €300.

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer?
internet browsing, downloading music/films, maybe some video editing.

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows?
    No. have windows 7.

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer?
    No

    5. Do you need a monitor?
    No.Have a 1920 x 1080.

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals?
    No.have mouse,speakers and keyboard.

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking?
    No.

    8. How can you pay?
    whatever is cheapest.

    9. When are you purchasing?
I would like to be able to buy what's needed within the next few weeks.

    10. If you need help building it, where are you based?
I should be ok putting things together but I will probably just post up here if I'm stuck.

I was told it will need a large HDD so I would go for a 1TB and it will need plenty of RAM because it might be used for video editing in the future.Would it be worth getting 16gb or is that overkill?

Here is something to get you going.
Not to sure about it though so wait and see what others say.
I'd reckon 16gb of ram is way to much btw

    Item|Price
    ASRock B75 Pro3-M, Sockel 1155, mATX|€59.84
    BitFenix Merc Alpha|€31.87
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€33.48
    WD Caviar Blue 1TB 6Gb's|€63.99
    Intel Celeron Dual-Core G550 Box, LGA1155|€37.30
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€42.35
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€287.82

I was looking to put something like this together myself soon enough and was wondering what others thought. I think It has decent upgrade path too so if you ever wanted to, you could drop in an i3 or i5 and maybe even a 7770 or 7850 if you wanted to game

cheers for the advice, was thinking the same regarding the RAM.looking at the set up I would probably go the extra few quid and get an I-3.

So you'd be thinking something like this???

    Item|Price
    ASRock B75 Pro3-M, Sockel 1155, mATX|€59.84
    BitFenix Merc Alpha|€31.87
    8GB-Kit G.Skill PC3-10667U CL9|€33.48
    WD Caviar Blue 1TB 6Gb's|€63.99
    Super-Flower Amazon 80Plus 450W|€42.35
    Intel Core i3-3220 Box, LGA1155|€105.07
    Shipping|€18.99
    Total|€355.59

You could probably shave off another €25 by dropping to 4gb ram and a 500gb hdd but tbh, I'd beg borrow or steal that extra few quid because it is good value for money

I'm going to order these parts unless anyone has any other advice/recommendations.if I decided to overclock could I still go with this build or would I need any changes.
What advantages are there to buying a case with no psu to one with a psu ?

The i3 is not really suitable to overclocking. You would have to spend a lot more to have an overclockable Intel system.
That amazon 450 is much higher quality to the type of PSUs that come with a case.

Cheers Tuxy , I was thinking that about d psu. I don't think it's worth getting a system thats overclockable for the use the system will get and will most likely not be needed.
What do you think of the set up I plan on building? Anything you would change/alter ?

Are you ever planning on adding a graphics card? If not you could go with a smaller PSU.

No plans at the moment but I think I'd rather keep the psu and I'd only make savings of €10/15
