Snapped wheel studs

    Hi guys,

Long story short the hand brake seized on my 02 Land Cruiser and when removing the wheel to have a better look 2 of the studs snapped off pretty easily - I barely got to put my weight on them and them came off.

I had new tires fitted a couple of months ago so am wondering is it a case of age or where they over tightened when the tires where replaced. One I'd put down to age but two is a bit suspect.

Also there's 4 studs left on that wheel (rear drivers) would you drive on it? (As far as the garage)

Any way to check the condition of the remaining studs or is it a case of just replace them all?

    Thanks,
    nb

    Personally I'd replace them all.
Those guys in tyre centres are little more than rubber monkeys and shouldn't be left to use air impact guns on wheel studs.
For the record its 110nm torque for them.
I always ask them not to torque them with the guns but just with the wheels on the ground and with the factory wheelbrace.
The studs are 5 euro each from Mr T and and easy replacement.

I thought it might come to that. Any point going after the tire place to fix? €120 and a half day swopping out the studs is a pita

Meant to ask who or what is Mr T :)

Perfect example of why tyre places are not mechanics. Torques are there for a reason. And this is why I don't agree with them offering service jobs as the cant even put a wheel on right.

My 03 Nissan Almera was a devil for shearing studs. They used to shear after being tightened using the wheelbrace. For a finish I used to have a few spares in the glovebox, and they were needed once or twice. Maybe I was just too strong for them??
