I'm waiting on delivery of a crucial 128Gb M4 SSD.
The computer has 5 drives in it already, so I'll disconnect these.
Connect ssd to a 6gb port (my motherboard
Install OS(win7) as you would a normal hd.
    Install drivers and programs
    Reconnect the other drives

    Is that it? :)
I was contemplating cloning my original hd to the ssd, but I think I'll just go this (safe)route.
Can you add anything to this?

You don't need to disconnect all your drives, just make sure you select the ssd when installing windows.

Make sure boot order is correct
    1. Either usb or dvd , depends on how you are installing windows
    2. SSD

A clean install is a good idea.

Also make sure ahci is the sata mode selected in bios before you start.

It's actually good idea to only have the SSD plugged in when installing Windows, just to ensure that all files are installed there. Sometimes Windows will install other files to other hard disks.

    Cheers Tuxy and Eboggles
There was a fellow on another thread that was having problems with multiple disks (think it was trying to boot to one of the other drives) is the only reason I'd disconnect them. Are you familiar with upgrading the firmware on the ssd? I read that some ssds are unstable but after the update they're grand. Do you
upgrade the firmware before you put on the os?

I have the 128gb m4. An old version of the firmware had a problem where it would be very unstable as soon as it hit 5000 hours of use.
If you got the drive fairly recently it should have firmware that fixes the bug.
I would only flash a new firmware if you were to encounter some problem.

Good drive btw, I'm very happy with mine :)

I would change my settings so that all files in user profiles (downloads, images, music, etc.) are stored on a normal hard drive. This avoids too many writes to the ssd.

To do this you go to properties/location/move of each folder you want moved to the hard drive?

It is actually better to do as part of the installation.

I hope this is not too technical for you.

I never knew that :) Just had a quick skim through and provided I have a hard drive connected it will put the users and prog data to that disk. I'll defo give this a go when its delivered. It looks as if your writing it into the kernel rather than creating a shortcut to a different disk.

My win7pro key is missing and most of my hair is gone at this point. Got another one to use now, but still fuming. Had the machine running primes for 2wks to get her a nice oc so just windows is holding up the migration :/

ubuntu! I hate not having the original win 7 keys, especially as I had them all free in uni, and i dont have access to the link any more! So that's annoying all right.

The posty delivered the drive about an hour ago, and I've installed win 7 ultimate on it. My restart time on the previous hd was 1min, 3 secs, now its down to 28secs. I'm going to reinstall though using unseenfootages link . I couldn't wait to see the difference so just lashed an install onto it :D. Probably wont do it just yet, it being new years eve n'all

    Maybe I will though
