    Hi all

thought I should wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Peaceful New year

thanks to info from this board, my own research and a bunch of experts my house has just been awarded both A1 and Passive Certified

Thanks to all on this Forum for your help & advice

Was it all worth it - yes - cooked dinner for nothing Christmas day - (well started to offset the PV costs)

On the very windy days recently did not feel a bit of it and on the frosty nights a couple of weeks ago house stayed at 21C. I can walk around without shoes or socks and do not get cold.

    Advice to others
    • Do your prep work - and get every detail worked out in advance
    • Pick a good set of professionals (arch, tech arch, engineer .........)
    • Pick a good builder we stood outside on handover day and were still talking to each other
    • Allow 10% for overruns/extras - despite everything there will be items which pop up
    • Manage your budget ruthlessly
    • Be maniacal about detail, inspect every detail and if you not happy push back
and follow my mantra of the 5 P's
    • Passive
    • Practical
    • Price Sensative
    • Pragmatic
    • Particular

and to add to this today we along with my Architect Mr Z and my trusty tech arch BeyondPassive won the Isover energy award (I have no relationship with this company) http://www.isover.ie/news-events/isover-energy-efficiency-awards-2013-at-woodquay-venue-march-1st-/231

We will now go forward to represent (along with the other 4 runners up) to represent the best of Irish builds against the whole of the rest of europe next year

Thanks to all on this boards.ie who helped me and the team to achieve the above

What construction type was your house? Working on Passivhaus systems for final year college project.
How did you find the passivhaus certification process?

Happy to speak off line - please PM

Regular foundations with 200mm of insulation in floors and all walls perimeters 50mm between screed and wall - plus 3 rows of quinn in rising walls
250mm regular block cavity (100mm/250mm/100mm) fully pumped
    500mm cellulose in the roof
    Passive windows
    MHRV and HP

PHPP easy or hard - you just have to be diligent and perknicaty on details

You can have the best EXCEL house in the world – but if its built badly – then its worth nought

Just to add on FC's behalf: http://www.isover.ie/news-events/passive-house-wins-isover-energy-efficiency-awards-2013-/236

Well deserved FC. I enjoyed the article in Passive House Plus recently as well. Any chance you'd bring the house over to the West coast so we could take a look? ;):D
