I am Looking at building a HTPC to work with xbmc for my DVD collection
The HTPC would have to be energy efficient and silent and a quick start up time as well.I dont need a blu ray player as I have a PS3 but Is there a blu ray player capable of playing 3D movies, if I ever upgrade and get a 3D TV?
Looking as using a remote to control the HTPC as well.
Is it possible to build on a budget of say 500e?It wont be used for gaming, mostly sit under TV in living room to watch movies, rte player etc.
I had a look on hardwareversand.de, but if anyone has built one recently could you point me in the right direction.
    Thanks Barry

What you are planning would be throwing money away with all the Android on a stick/Raspberry Pi devices becoming available at the moment. XBMC is out for Android and nearly ready for full release. You could then do what you've planned for a fraction of the cost pf building a PC. I built a HTPC last year but it will soon be complete overkill. For now just get a NAS or some sort of storage backend and buy a cheap Android device later when XBMC goes full release. Check out the Ouya, out in March 2013: http://www.ouya.tv/, the XBMC team are aiming to have XMBC stable and full release to coincide with the Ouya release

Thanks for that so the way to go would be to set up a NAS and buy a Android device to work with XBMC.Would it best to wait for the likes of that Ouya or is there anything as good out now?

It's too early to say, there is no hardware acceleration yet, XBMC on Android runs on the cpu and therefore is limited to 720p. In time hardware acceleration will run on the gpu and allow 1080p. Something like this could be a good buy a it has open source Samsung hardware http://www.hardkernel.com/renewal_2011/products/prdt_info.php?g_code=G135341370451
