WWF first time in UK? (80s)

Does anyone remember Sky channel back in the late 80's screening a WWF wrestling event that was in the UK? They were making a big deal about it because I think it was the WWF's first time in England or possibly outside America.

Now despite all the hoopla however the production values of this show were really bad so even though it had all the stars of the day it actually looked closer to that Big Daddy stuff on ITV than a properly lit/filmed ep of WWF Superstars/SatNightMainEvent etc

For some reason I seem to recall the headline match was Hulk Hogan vs Dino Bravo? Hogan was definitely on the card fighting someone anyway.

Does anyone know what this event was or when/where it was held. It had to be some time between 87 and 90 anyway.

Check out thehistoryofwwe.com they have a ton of results. Probably UK Rampage. Hogan wasn't at Battle Royal at the Albert Hall in 91 anyway

UK Rampage was the first uk and Ireland shows. I was at the show in the Point Depot, a great night 23 years ago, I got to shake hands with Andre The Giant, I could only get my hand around a few fingers as I was 10.

What year did Sky start showing WWF in the UK and Ireland?

Yeah I reckon it has to be that October 89 show.

Hogan was v Savage, but I read what I could find and it appears to be mentioning a Hogan tag match vs Dino Bravo the following night. I guess Hogan was plugging that match too during his promos.

That intro video actually makes it look look like pretty decent production. For some reason I seemed to remember it being pretty tacky. I think it might have been the way they cut the pre-match promos or something

Sky's coverage began in 1986 with Superstars of Wrestling. ITV had a few occasional WWF shows from about 1985 prior to that. WWF had run some shows in Spain, France and Italy in 1988 so their London show wasn't the first ever in Europe, even if they claimed it to be. Their first Irish show was in April 1991, all of 1 years ago

Woah. So I must have seen them on their 2nd or 3rd trip to Ireland. Kinda puts my whole life in perspective when I look at dates surrounding pop culture like that. I used to get videos from people when I was really little and the bigger guys in school would tape the stuff.

I was there that night to watching Andre walk out with the Rockers. Then seeing them leave in Kayfabe buses after the show. The good guy bus and the bad guy bus. Awesome night.

Wow. That sounds amazing. Did anyone else get to meet Andre when he was here? I'd say the bar tab was fairly steep if himself and a few of the other guys from then stayed in Dublin.

WCW Paddy's night '93 was the best night I had at a live event title changed hands that night as well so cool.
