Hey I'm going travelling in a few weeks and want to rent a car with my O2 money card. I was wondering has any one any experience with renting out a car with one?

I understand you have to present a credit card when you rent? Would it be okay to use one?

    I don't have a credit card.

Safe, yes - with a reputible company.

As for possible - most of them won't accept prepaid cards, so you may hit a snag there..

They'll take Visa Debit but not a prepaid card, well not in any developed country anyways.

The main problem is there is no name on the card. Apart from that minor issue the card will work.

OP, if all you have is a prepaid card, the car rental companies also have no recourse against you if you damage the car, or run up excess charges. All they can take from you is the amount on the card and no more. To protect themselves, they usually require a credit card. You may also run into the same problems if try to use a debit card as the same principal applies really. Try contacting the car rental companies directly and see what their individual polices are. Some will let you rent a car without a credit card as long as you are ok with paying an additional deposit up front. Don't just make a booking on the internet and then just show up on the day with your prepaid card, and expect to be given a car.

I have had no problems with debit cards so long as you give them a big enough deposit usually around €500.
