In reply to a thread I started recently, one of the people who replied has said that most people in AH are atheists. This seems to me to be a huge generalisation...but maybe it's correct. So...poll. Are you an atheist or not, AHer?

I am a follower of the lizard Goddess. Dana Scallon. She walks the earth as a 'human' but beneath that skin...http://zhukovroad.com/reptoid.jpg

The lizard people will rule again soon.

I'm not big into religion, but I'm not an atheist. Its nice to know that dead loved ones (and maybe myself one day) are in a very good place and that death isn't the end

    I'm an evangelical Christian.

I have every suspicion that I will be right about most on boards.ie being atheists though.

Its a nice little pacifier for the masses alright. Helps ease the finality of death I suppose.

    Its nice to know

You mean its nice to believe...

About an hour ago I stopped an argument between my mother(catholic) and my father (protestant(who goes about 5 times a year by the way)) on a religious matter. I said, "In situations where there are people of different faiths the best thing to do was, pardon my french, STFU!". I didnt say STFU, I said the words. That did actually shut them up a bit. They rarely argue, about anything, but tonight religion raised its ugly head.

And while telling me that she didnt mind that I didnt go to church, my mother managed to subtley make me feel guilty about not going.

    Happy Christmas.

I love that I quoted this because at first glance I read it as "Are you an atheist or not, Hitler?". :pac:

I think it's a very fair response. People believe what they want to believe, he's not getting too upset. He's dead right in my opinion.

It's also missing the 'piss off' option for people who don't want to be pigeon-holed.

I'm not an athiest. I'm a Catholic, but I don't go to mass, or have much time for the official Church. I speak to my God direct, I don't feel the need for a middle man. But I do speak to my God, and I do it daily, much as many might ridicule that. Why do I believe? Because often, when things have been really bleak, he has stepped in and carried me, and for that, I am both grateful and humble.

I don't understand atheists, they're missing out on the fulfillment offered by the Bible:Bible_zpse266435d.jpg

    Oh wait, never mind :P
I'm actually an agnostic atheist but only agnostic to the extent that we cannot disprove the existence of magical unicorns or fairies :P

I dunno what I am, I would yes, my mind and everything logically tells me there is no God and no afterlife or nothing but I oh so wish there was?

So I dunno, I don't really dwell on it anymore.

I won't go to Church today for Christmas. Like the majority of Irish people I was baptised and confirmed into the Catholic faith. I still consider myself Christian but I don't feel that I have to go to a house of worship. It sounds convenient really doesn't it? and sometimes I wonder if I'm only fooling myself.

I'm in the legal business so I've already made my will in which I've stated that I want to be buried in my local Catholic graveyard with a Priest overseeing the burial, I've also asked not to have a funeral Mass said. Just some words said by a clergyman at the graveside will do me.

i believe in facts and science and all that stuff which exists. that doesnt mean im "atheist" - it means im not gullible and question my surroundings.

also, personally, as someone that has come close to death before, it means im far more in touch with my surroundings and the people that fill them rather following illusions of grandeur. nature wins

Well then you're not welcome to our atheist congress. I don't have exact details but I assume our congress is as well-funded as the Christian ones so a couple of weeks in Vegas with rooms and a 50 dollar chip each per day should be the bare minimum.

you'll be long dead and buried by the time your will is read, best bet is tell your family/friends how you want to be buried, even the local priest, but thats no guarentee they'll comply
