I am using a Thomson East European plasma television and have been having problems with the remote control and for viewing DVDs. The TV repair guy told us to scart the dvd player through the Saorview box, you see we have been having problems viewing videos as its coming out in black and white rather than colour. So we took the TV guys advice and connected through Saorview, he told us to turn off saorview box to view colour video which worked out last night OK, but today we tried to put on a Xmas DVD for the nephew, doing the usual procedure of turning off Saorview box, but Saorview kept restarting and cutting out the video picture. So what to do I do now?

If you want to get into it, you got to get out of it. (Hawkwind 1982)

    Stupid.
The socket on the Saorview is for VHS Record/Replay. Probably only composite. Maybe the DVD player is set to RGB or Y/C?

Does the TV have several SCART inputs? What happens if you connect the DVD player directly? Does the Saorview box and the TV have HDMI? If so, try connecting them that way, and maybe invest in a DVD or Bluray player which can be connected via HDMI also.

So it seems the DVD player, when switched on, is "waking up" the Saorview box?

You could try disabling pin 8 on the scart lead connecting these 2 devices together.

Any possiblity that the remotes are clashing?

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.
