I want to import a "classic" car from New Zealand.

    What I've heard/read.

    VRT is only 50 euro.

How is the VAT charged, on the market value of the car in Ireland, on the market value in New Zealand or what I paid for it in New Zealand? I've also read somewhere that the VAT is charged on the price of the car plus shipping costs?

How soon do I have to pay all these charges?

Lets say the car costs me $4000, roughly 2500 euros, what is the most amount I can be charged at the port back home in Ireland?

Appreciate the help. I just want to ship her home! I get quite attached!

    Go to https://www.ros.ie/evrt-enquiry/vrtenquiry.html?execution=e1s1 for starters.

Other than that I don't know why you or the car are coming back to this kip

    Be prepared for taxes+++++ :mad:

Are you living in NZ ? How long is the car in your name? Is it taxed and insured in your name ? Are you returning to Ireland permanently ? You may qualIfy for VAT ,vrt and import duty exemption

Otherwise it's 10% [of the cast of car added to the shipping costs from NZ] import tax and 23% vat on the cost of car in NZ plus shipping plus import tax.

The vat and import tax must be paid in port before you can clear customs. A shipping agent in Dublin port can handle all that for you in advance for a smallish fee.

VRT is €200 if it's over 30 years old...

be careful about what the tax is being stated to be, I've a feeling it's based ion the market value here rather than what you paid for it....see the Charter for more details.

VAT is on the purchase price plus shipping AFAIK, it's when applying VRT that the Revenue can pick a random number and multiply it by pi.

Yep, they care little about how much you paid for it, but what they deem its worth on the Irish market. Which is usually closer to the value at the height of the boom rather than what it is now.

But seeing as the KE25 would be over 30 years old, you'll only be looking at €200 for VRT, unless that went up in the budget

    Beautiful car, by the way!

As far as I know, the E200 Does NOT apply to cars imported from outside the E.U. I would suggest that you contact the customs in Rosslaire, and see if they would give you some guidance on it, but I think you can only contact them by E.Mail. You may have Duty & Vat to pay. As a completely off the wall figure, I would think around around E1000.

It does. That flat fee is VRT on any car over 30 years old, after you have paid VAT and duty.
