Nice one RTE. Just before the announced the winner of Sports person of the year they cut to Ads and missed the announcement (Katie Taylor) and then twice more during her acceptance speach they cut away to ads again. Someone is going to get an almighty bollocking.

    Noticed that, WTF.

And no apology from them either.

Can you imagine that happening on British telly?
yes if the awards were on ITV

Sports awards, great show , bad finish. What a balls up - good old RTE, nearly right. Pity for Darragh, he did a great job but someone half asleep in the back had to press that button. Maybe Father Dougal McGuire was to blame...

Ryle Nugent is there so I'm sure someone will have a whisper in his ear.

I was in the same boat and thought the same.

An awful balls up, and then for it to happen, not once, not twice but 3 times and could have been 4

You think that was bad, how about announcing to a nation in the film about great sporting people who passed away this year that someone who in fact is very much alive had passed away??

They showed Michael O Brien, Cork GAA up as having passed away this year, when in fact the man is very much alive! I had a look, and it is incorrectly stated on a wikipedia page - now we know where RTE get their information!

YOU LET DOUGAL DO A FUNERAL!!! :D

Epic cock up. Disgusted. They owe the licence payers and Irish public a huge apology.

"Would you like her to rephrase the question?"

No, I would like you to show the announcement of the winner and her interview without interruption.

    Shambles.

Ah good ol' sports journalism. Reminds me of seeing "sports journalists" who don't know the rules of baseball or whatever, amazing that they get hired. Well, I'm sure surnames help.

Yeah, completely messed up. Very bad finish, couldn't believe the ads kept interrupting! Seems like the show ran over and the ads automatically cut in. Then the override failed?

Edit, apology aired but a damp one liner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 43 TerryOC

They cut to Ads, in the middle of the announcement of the winner (Katie Taylor), then the ad for a few seconds , then back to Darragh & Katie then bacl to ads... then... get the idea? Disaster

Jesus christ, they give a lame "Sorry for technical issues" apology .....and then put on a fúcking Michael Buble concert.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 586 ✭✭✭devotional1993

Gob****es in RTE . What a complete fcuk up.Some idiot was probably pinning up little pics of Rory Mcilroy on his wall at the time.

but no apology for claiming a person is dead when they are in fact alive?? Horrible for his family and friends to see!! Thats worse than Katie's award speech being interrupted to be fair, we all knew she was going to get it if they had any common sense!

Was watching that also, and thought wtf were they doing. Terrible performance from the national broadcaster.
Well done katie, well deserved great role model for all kids.

Woeful, well done RTE, at least they maintain standards!!!!

Backwards and forwards to ads during the announcement and during Katies acceptance speech. Plus, acording to the other thread, remembering sports people who have died this year, and one of them still very much alive.

Funniest thing I've ever seen. A bit annoyed I didn't get to listen to katie

I tought that too. Had to ring someone to double check.

when I saw it, I was fairly sure he was alive - but it was put up on the official Cork GAA twitter that he was

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 831 ✭✭✭rotinaj

So is he dead or alive?

If you listen to their main News programme there is hardly a day that there is no fcuk-up. Reports mixed up, nobody on the phone-line or a wrong picture for the item. Useless shower.

While not in any way trying to defend RTE ...... I do seem to recall a certain penalty shoot out on ITV not too very long ago ..... So in answer to your Q ..... Yes I have no difficulty imagining it ..... in fact I don't have to imagine it :)
PS Well done Katie, It's about time you got the award

Typical RTE......Poor Katie, but especially poor Michael O'Brien...That wouldn't do you any good at all seeing that!....

Now for the New Year's Eve impending debacle....

    I can wait.

I think someone read this http://www.cloynediocese.ie/2011/07/death-of-canon-michael-obrien/ and assumed it was the same man? Then again, we're lucky they didn't also read this while googling http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Michael_O'Brien

Not totally over reacting. They only gave a few minutes to allow for announcing it, and giving her a chance to respond, with the whole thing interrupted by technical problems, with no apology.
