    hi there
i took up a contract job recently and took up the services of a firm who set me up as a director of their umbrella company.
i give my expenses to them and they invoice on behalf of me.
recently i claimed expenses with no receipts and they said no problem.
they have been accepting all my expenses without any questions (even if i dont have receipts).

i was expecting the agency to take some responsibility about my expenses as this is my first contract role.

i am bit worried that i may get into trouble for claiming without receipts.

in umbrella set up, who is responsible for managing the accounts?
is it the director of the umbrella company (its me) or
its the umbrella company owners? (agency)

You are ultimately responsible, Directors sign off on the accounts.

In some cases you can claim unvouched expenses - no receipts needed. This is often simpler to administer. http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/it/leaflets/it54.html#appendix1

The umbrella doesn't really do anything for you, it's a lot cheaper to administer company yourself and just get accountant to do annual return.
