    just assembling a kids bike

do you have to do anything on these apart from tightening up the brake cable

is the brake assembly supposed to be fixed or free to move like it is ,the pads dont seem to go back to their original position after the brakes are applied

    thanks

You have to tension the spring arms that move the brake pads away once the brake is disengaged

I realise it may be a bit late now, but have you worked it out?

The springs that tension the v-brake unit sort of do two jobs. Firstly, they are what pulls the brake back away from the rim once you've released the brake lever. Also, they are what balances out the brake pads (i.e., if the tension is equal on both sides then one side won't rub if the other one isn't)

The tension is controlled by the balance screws, which are either a screw or an allen-key bolt on the very bottom of the unit on both sides of the v-brake.
