Single bloke - winter sun travel/holiday

    Hey folks,

So I haven't been on a holiday in 2 years, and want to go somewhere in January next year. I want sun but without having to travel too far - the idea of just flying for a few hours and then landing in sunshine in the month of January is hugely appealing to me! So I think it's gonna be somewhere like the Canaries.

I'm single and would be travelling alone, and would like to either go on a group-holiday / adventure package, or at the very least go and do something where I could meet other people in my age range (mid 20s - mid 30s).

While I adore the sun, I'd like to do something more active alongside beach-time. I was looking at surfing trips but not sure it's what I'd want to do for an entire week. A mix of things might be good - walking, cycling, maybe hill-walking / exploring off the beaten track, that kinda thing. Active, but not too active, with lots of time for chilling out and going out.

Anybody got any tips or sites to recommend? I saw an old thread but looking for more up to date info and experiences :)

I am thinking a week in Spain would be cool.

Are you committed to going in January or are you more flexible, as Gran Canaria's annual carnival kicks off in mid-February lasting until the 24th. It's supposedly the biggest in the world after Rio's carnival and something I'm considering

Have a look at explore http://www.explore.co.uk/ and exodus http://www.exodus.co.uk/ group holidays - a tip the higher the level of the walks the younger the age group. You can usually join onsite provided there is a convenient Irish flight.

    That sounds cool...?

Nope not at all, in fact it would be looking more like early-mid February at this stage.

Cheers, will check those links out. Have you been on one of those holidays before?

Anyone know if I just booked a package sun holiday to say the Canaries for end Jan/early Feb, would there be the option to meet other young people there (late 20s and 30s) along the way, or would it just be full of families and couples..??

I saw one company - Friendship travel - but it looks like it might attract a few folks in their 40s, 50s and beyond - divorcees and the like...!

you will always find people your own age ... on day trips, tours, in bars etc ... the very same as here ... it comes down to striking up a conversation and having a laugh.... Jan/Feb is not the best for travelling to meet singles you will still meet some - easter break, summer break will have higher opportunities.

you could always go with a tour group !!...explore some country with a busload of strangers (friends you have not met yet !)

Famara in Lanzarote is wicked for surfing. ( google "Caleta de Famara" )

Lanz is small so you'll be no time in a hire car to any number of wild nights.
