First and foremost, RIP to the subject of the post and condolences to his family and friends.

Discussion I'd like to debate here is, do you think a factor in this gentleman's demise is a factor that ''he wasn't thick skinned enough'', ''couldn't take it'' '' cared too much'' etc, etc,?

A bit difficult to surmise, but I think the philosophical debate I'm trying to stoke here is do successful people have a nasty, cold or ruthless streak that isolates them from feeling the sort of pressures that could lead to this type of tragedy? Is there such a thing as being ''thick skinned'' or the like?

The elites and the old slow media hate "social media"

the cyber bullying issue is being used by them as an excuse to try and control it

That's not a bad description for clinical psychopathy. (Edit: I read pleasures instead of pressures)
Being thick skinned has definite advantages, it's terrible what happened to that man.

People who can't take an insult shouldn't get work in the public eye. It's a matter of fact that people will be assholes and say nasty things. There's no avoiding it if you're out there with your profession.

I think the cyber bullying thing is an excuse to control it. I also think it's a bit low to use this man's death to control it.

Unless it's the postal bill you are paying.

Politicians can find life very difficult at times, not being able to go out without being noticed; making a normal lifestyle a real problem, Many politicians try to cultivate friendships for all the wrong reasons, and it is often difficult to distinguish the genuine from the false, They can never afford to let their standards slip. Image is everything and the constant need to be well groomed and say the right things always adds to the pressure. Any mistakes will be exposed, So they all or should know this well before they become TD,s and most in fairness use it to there advantage, It is very sad and unfortunate that this happened to this TD but i'm sure there are deep rooted significant other problems there from other personnel problems, and for others to jump in on a bashing of social media are doing that just for there own personal gains.

A lot of politicians also come from a background of privilege and wealth too, many of whom have civil servant jobs like teachers. They often give their own children everything they want, i.e money for travelling, getting them jobs in the family firm etc. Most of them have not been affected ONE SINGLE BIT from the recession, not one bit. So how can they claim to empathise with the poor woman who is having her light bill cut off, the man who cant get work in his 50s and the family who have to cough up 100euro houselhold charge on top of seeing their children emigrate because there are no jobs in Ireland.

Its very sad what happened here but at the same time, politicians need to really think about what they are saying before they say it, sadly their lack of alignment with the real world lands them in trouble when they try to downplay what is to them a non-issue but to the ordinary Joe soap is the difference between life and death.

And yet Sean Fitzpatrick wasn't a bit worried about going off to a wedding in a full tux after bring arrested and charged. That fcuker has no shame at all (nor do the people who invited him).

Thats because he knows full well nothing will happen to him. His recent arrests are just a red herring to keep the masses happy and give the impression that this country has the will to tackle crime in the banking sector when in reality they havent the balls to take on a single member of the sector. Sean knows this, the guards know this and many many people know this too. This time next year he will be forgotten about and enjoying his 10th holiday abroad at our expense.

Probably had that sort of character in mind when I started the thread, it would be intriguing to have theses people's minds or consciousness for a day just to see is it a genuine lack of the Theory of Mind principle wherein it's not their fault and they just have a cerebral incapacity to appreciate or value other's opinions or feelings or do they have an malevolent streak that enjoys other's opprobrium and even enjoy being hated.

Yes while Fitzpatrick's spouse is quids in and untouchable. I'm sure she gives him plenty of pocket money. The guy has some brass neck on him. Maybe he has a 'Quinn Complex' and sees himself as a victim in all this.

An insult is one thing but people sending him death threats should also get a grip and cop the f*ck on.

although can understand why people affected by the respite care cuts woud be peed off and need an outlet for expressing how fed up they are, abusing or bullying someone who had no choice in the government decision is vile horrible behavior and yes they have played a part in his suicide-it is cause and effect, anyone who can make someone feel so rotten because of their own problems clearly have some issues going on beyond what their problems are about and they have no right to treat people like dirt.

the job he has is very high stress; anything involving dealing with peoples issues or complaints is high stress, they rarely ever get thanks for anything good they are involved in.
every human has mental health and are not immune from suffering weakness in it at any point in their lives, some of the strongest willed people will eventualy become mentaly torn apart by abuse or bullying,it weakens the mental shield people have to deflect negativity away from their mind,it destroys self worth, confidence and tolerance over time-this gent sounds like he was one of these guys, not a weak minded person.
'weak minded' is also a cop out what people who have bullied someone into mental illness or suicide use.
imagine shooting at a wall or door,it woud eventualy wear it down until it starts seriously damaging the person behind it.

This is a pretty disgusting thread

You only need to look at some of the people who post here, and some of the idiots posting on other forums to see the astounding levels of ignorance that greet anything related to the government. I don't imagine it's nice for the genuinely hard working td's who have to put up with being called "clowns" "crooks" and "scumbags" no matter what they do or say.

Good post, I think it will be a progressive evolution to stop viewing suicides or mental health issues through the prism of ''weakness''or deficiencies of character.
