No foam yet, should I be concerned?

Started 20L of Vitafit apple juice with a sachet of Youngs Cider Yeast last night, no foam on top yet just a few bubbles

I made this before in the Summer and there was a good covering of foam a few hours later.

Here's a pic of last nights (lack of) progress:

I did have the bucket on an upstairs tiled floor. I've since doubled up a towel and put that between the tiles and the bucket.

Temp reading in the trial jar last night was 14C, tonights bucket (not the pic above) temo jar reading was 16C.

Should I be concerned about this, or is it just slower because of the time of year? (Summer batch had a temp around 22C if I remember right).

Can you hear it bubbling? I rarely get foam on mine, only a quiet bubbling sound if I stick my ear close to it (with the lid off).

I was concerned about fermentation at 12C so I did some reading. Apparently it will still continue as low as 5C, just very slowly. 14 should be grand though. Beneficial even.

This is worse than minding a child lol......... I can't hear it bubbling but I did observe it for a minute or so and bubbles to seem to be popping up here and there so I'm assuming now I slightly panicked over not very much :D

Good to know about the 5C as this house wouldn't be the warmest.

Give it another day it could just be slow start with the low temp.

Do you have another pack of yeast just in case?

Yeah I have two or three packs extra here. Trouble is I'm going away until the 27th either tonight or tomorrow lol.

I had another peek just now. First picture is of the bucket I was concerned about. There is still bubble activity coming to the surface.

The bucket I made up last night looks like this (I spy foam):

Add it to night then, rehydrate it with some water first

Have gone already, there did appear to be a very small amount of foam forming when I left.

    Sounds like you're sorted tbh.

Yeah I hope so, am looking forward to getting ever so slightly discombobulated sometime the end of May. Happy Christmas all :)

You're more patient than I am and that's for sure. The longest any of mine has ever lasted has been 3 months. Now's the perfect time to be brewing it though. Enjoy it when it's ready. :)

Oh God yeah, now that I know I can produce something drinkable I'll have to keep my supply levels up. Bit of a pain I have to wait so long but I wasn't sure the first attempt and didn't want to go making another brew if I didn't like it.
