A few months ago, I was aware that a car was lying up in a front garden, The car had been there for the best part of 2 years+, The car is a 2001 passat,

Anyway,Me and a mate were driving through the estate and I happened to mention that the car was there, so I decided to knock in and just as I get talkin to the owner my mate comes along and I suppose takes over the deal, He buys the car for 120 euro with the promise that i'd get a few quid out of it when he sells it for my trouble, Now he trades it for a polo and tells me if I wanna buy the polo he'd want 1200 off me for it..

The passat drove perfectly with a new clutch and brand new pads and discs put on it before it was left lying up, However my mate did service it and put it through the NCT, and also applied for a new logbook, Just wondering would ya think I should mention it to him as he is a good mate and i'd hate to fall out with him but I think i'm atleast entitled to somthing for my trouble?

i wouldn't really ask for anything, fair enough you found it, so a maybe mention a small little finders fee ;), but you mention he was the one who serviced it, so im guessing you didnt put any money in it at all to fix it, if not then you might as well forget about it, he seems to have done all the work :/ ask him to buy you a few pints or something, if hes a good friend, wouldn't be worth the hassle

nothing to fall out with a mate over,a few free pints down the pub on a saturday would make things even in my eyes.

Next time you two find a car, let you chip in a few quid, that way you can tell him you helped and you would get a cut :), as i said bud, just ask for a few pints, best your gonna get :D

Is this personal issues? Oh no its not, not after hours either so I cannot portray effectively the rediculousness of your post in my preferable terms.

You could have bought the car but you choose not too. You told your friend, he took a chance and bought it.
It looks like u now want something off him?

He took the chance so he deserves it. As said before he might owe you a pint for telling him.

what goes around , comes around I reckon. Ask him for a favour some time in the future and then call it quits. Not worth losing your hair about....

There's lads here must be owed a fortune for posting links to bangernomics cars!

But it sounds like the op was at the door talking to the owner in the process of buyiny it when the mate pretty much just stepped into the deal. Sounds pretty craps to me. If that was myself and a mate and he had found the car, and had approached owner, I would have a look with him but I wouldn't take over and buy it.

He traded a Passat for a Polo?

Sounds like you need to be more assertive. You spotted the car, you approached the owner but then let your mate snatch the deal right in front of you. If that was me I'd be annoyed with myself, and not the mate who obviously thinks you're a soft touch.

    Chalk it down.

Can we add this to the thread of the year poll? I think it would clean up!

Your friend took advantage of a good deal. you didn't. Simple as that really.

You really think you're entitled to something because it wasn't you who had taken the risk? If he'd bought the car and the engine dropped out of it halfway down the road I highly doubt you would stump up for half the repairs somehow. ;)

    Get over it lad.

"Shy bairns get nowt". Be more decisive next time OP and get yourself the €120.00 Passat, instead of having it swiped out from under your nose.:D
