    Hi all,

Our car ('07 Fabia Combi 1.2) needs new bushings for the front suspension on both sides.

I've gone to the lad I normally use, and he's quoted €50ish for the bushings - working out at €250 all in for supply and fitting.

The missus is worried that this is a little steep, I have nothing to compare it against.

Anybody have a similar job done recently? Is the price a fair one?

    Thanks

How much will the missus do it for?

Just wondering if I need to get alternate quotes, that's all

Our mechanic was hanging around in the office and he's saying around €200 ish.

2 bushings on each side apparently, but it's the labour that's the main cost.

Is this the old shape Fabia yes?

If so I would like to know a bit more info, €50 for bushes covers which bushes exactly? The bushes that usually wear out in these are the console bushes for the wishbones which are only €9 each ex VAT from the dealer, so at €50 for parts he must be changing more than just those.

Yep, it's the old shape Fabia George.

In terms of the bushes that I could see that needed replacing, they were on the bulkhead side of the wishbone - from some googling, it looks to be the Console bush. One side is pretty much collapsed, the other is just rattling.
I don't know if changing those necessitates changing them at the other pivot (front bumper side).
Bumpstops were also mentioned during the test drive, but haven't been mentioned in terms of parts supplied.

Id say from the price of parts he is going to replace the whole wish bone but here is a price guide for parts now these are not OE parts

Obviously none of us have seen the car so this is only speculation but usually you should be ok to just change the two console bushes and leave the others. Should cost no more than €150 all in.

A woman might be correct on the motoring forum? The world really is coming to an end!

Did you ask for a written quote? I always ask for one so I can compare it to either similar work I have done or ask another garage to price the same job.

Hi, I do the old shape Fabia console bushes for 130 euro which is both sides, parts and labour, so this is way too high. Is he a main dealer or inde.? Inde. overheads are much lower.

    Gary.

He's indie. Managed to knock him down a bit based on the info here and went ahead with it. Still paid over the odds, but learnt a valuable lesson too.

    Thanks all!
