If you are not losing weight on your current eating and exercise regime, then wearing a HRM will not magically improve this.

You need to look again at your diet and reduce the amount you eat.
Exercise will help, but not if your diet is not right.

How often do you run and how far do you run ? If you only run 5k runs, then you will not get stronger or faster, you need to start going for longer runs.

It is irrelevant what speed you run 5k at, it is not enough to burn off lots of calories. A rough guess is that running 5k burns off 300 calories.

Give us some more details and we might be able to give you more advice.

Weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. The usual culprits are snacks, alcohol, and white carbs.

If you have a garmin watch then you can track both and the calorie used for them. Get a digital kitchen and bathroom scales. Then use myfitnesspal to reach your goal. I lost 3.5 stone in last 2 1/2 years. I lost a 7Kg earlier this year. Going to try to lose another stone in the new year as going on holidays next week :). I lost no weight in Jan and Feb running at the correct (weight loss) pace up to 60 miles a week. You can not outrun your mouth. What weight and height are you now and what is your goal ?

If you are overweight and lose weight correctly then yes. http://www.runningforfitness.org/calc/diet/weighteffect Smaller dinner is the biggest change most people need to make or laying off the beer.

Lads and ladies, the maths is not rocket science.

A mile of running burns about 100 calories. A pound of fat is 3500 calories.

If you're running 22k a week that's about 1350 calories, which would equate to about a pound every 3 weeks (a bit less). To lose 2 stone on your running regime alone would take about 72 weeks and if you take the cycling into account, maybe a year.

Realistically, if you are serious about weight loss then either significantly increase your level of exercise or reduce your caloric intake (or, preferably, both).

As someone said, for pure weight loss a good diet is far more effective than exercise. Exercise has plenty of other benefits though, which makes it worthwhile.

    Excellently put T.
A hidden and unintentional habit is the intake of a sports drink to rehydrate after a session. This is ok if you have come from a lengthy run but unnecessary if you have only run 6k. You could easily take in more calories in that drink than what you burned in the session.

As Thomas said weight loss is a simple maths equation, burn more calories than you consume and 3.5k calories = 1lb

You're mixing up two things, losing weight and getting fit. They don't always coincide. If losing weight is your priority, you have to eat less (or less nutritious food).
